Rims are rough??

I just got my car painted and since then there are some rough spots on my rims. When I put the wheel cl;eaner on there, it didnt do anything. Is it clearcoat?? I can feel it best when I run a rag around the rim and the smooth goes to rough. WTF?????

The wheels are chrome pony's Forrest. Wheel cleaner may not do it depending on what the rough spot is. Wheel cleaner (to my knowledge) well take out stuff like brake dust and road grime.

If what you are describing is something like tar or (gulp!) rust you will have to use something else. Hmm... I think I got some Mother's Wheel Polish at home if you want to try some.

Jose is right. If they are chromed and NON clear coat, try to polish them up. As you know, I have a sh*t load of chrome on the Shelby and have become somewhat well-versed in keeping it shiny. Most so-called chrome polishes out there suck. Here's what I do:

Make sure the wheel is very clean. Then, start with a good wadding polish (Eagle One or Wenol are good) or jewlers rouge. After that you can go to a chrome polish or one specifically made for chrome wheels. When you are done, put a coat of Zaino Z-2 on them to protect and enhance the finish.

If that doesn;t work, talk to the shop, there may be a solvent they can use, depending on the type of clear coat, to remove it, then polish as i noted above.

Well, I hear how expensive that the Zainos is by all of your comments and he told me a little hint for rims. If you want to save some of the Zainos for the body, he says that an SOS pad is one of the best things out there. He said that it wont hurt the chrome and wont stripe any protectants.

NO, NO, NO NO!!!!!! Not an SOS pad, that's about 00 gauge steel wool. Plus it has all kinds of crap on it.

Use the Eagle One or an equivalent wadding polish. If it is really bad, go to a hardware store and get some 0000 (at least) gauge steel wool, like you use for polishing. Remember, you are, essentially RE-POLISHING the finish on the wheel. Using that analogy, I don;t think anyone uses an SOS pad to re-polish anything.

And, BTW, Zaino is not really any more expensive than any of the other products out there. The price per bottle is a little more but you use a much smaller quantity per application. BTW the idea is that AFTER you have the wheels where you want them, you use the Zaino to maintain the finish. Check my aluminum Mini-Lites next time, you'll see what I mean.
