When I bought my cobra the idiot guy at the dealership said he had been doing this for a long time and even the salesman said he was good...he used a buffer and swirled my paint pretty good any one know who i should take it to to get it fixed up...it didnt hurt the paint but the car is black and im no detailer. in other words...Cobra,Black,Swirls,Help.

Most Likely . . . The Swirls are in the wax . . . not the Paint! ! ! ! Here's What I would Suggest. It'll be an all day project. . . but it'll be worth it!!!
Go Buy Some 3M Swirl Mark Remover, and the Three Process Maguier's Rubbing Compound, Polish, and Wax. Or if you want to spend some money and really want that Cobra Shinning, Buy Some Zaino!!!
For the Cheaper Wax Method: Clean the Car Once With Dawn!!! What this will do is take all of the Wax Off the car. Your Car Should Look Completely Clean and Swirl Free after doing this. If It still has Swirls, then the buffer scratched the paint. The Rubbing Compound Will Take Care of the Swirl Marks. If they are still barely Visable, then apply the Swirl Mark Remover. If The Marks are still Really Bad . . . then your Fugged and it'll have to be re-wet sanded . . . which I have no knowledge of how to do, sorry. But if the Marks Are Starting to go away. . . apply the Polish . . this will give your finish the glass like finish . . . then apply the wax for protection. That should do it.
For the Best Finish and Protection ever . . . USE ZAINO!!!!!!! They have a Swirl Mark Remover and clay bars to get rid of all blimishes!!!!

Todd and I just used 3M Swirl Remover on my car (which is black) and it worked miracles!!
Then we used 3M Hand Glaze. Then we used NuFinish wax. It looks like brand new paint.
You should wash it with Dawn first like Who Needs 8 said.

Hey wafe, I've been hearing good things about the 3M stuff also. How did Todd apply it? By hand, orbital buffer or what?
360, this is all good advice, I would add that a wetsand (which should really only be done by a good paint guy) should be your last resort after you've tried a few of the suggested swirl removers and polishes. The idea is to work your way up from less to more agressive polishing mediums until you get the desired results.
At the end of the day, once you are happy with the finish, make the move to Zaino...you'll be glad you did.

OK.....there seems to be a universal misunderstanding of polishing versus waxing, here's a little primer on paint care.
We're talking two different things, polish and wax. Polish cleans and deepens the paint and brings out the shine (e.g. Meguires #7 show car glaze, 3M hand glaze, etc.), wax protects the finish you developed during the polish. Polishing is a precursor to protecting and is actually how you get your paint to really shine. Think of polish as a claybar only a little more agressive in it's action. There are varying degrees of polish as to the agressiveness of the medium and how much material it removes from the paint as it polishes. Always try to use the least aggressive medium you can get away with (after all you only have so much paint on the car to begin with).
The second step is protecting the bare paint that is now so shiney and new looking. You do that with wax, or in the case of Zaino, the Z series polish. The word polish is a little bit misleading for Zaino as it is actually a finish protector, rather than an medium for polishing paint.
You would need to do both, the hand glaze and then a protectant, in my case Zaino, in The Wafe and Todd's case they used a conventional wax (will some never learn http://64.81.114.233/ubb/wink.gif).
If you are going to the trouble of polishing, always use a clay bar first, it might turn out you don't need the polish after all.

I work in a body shop and have been working with paint finishes for almost 10 years and some of the replies are good and some are not. Polish has no abrasives in it. That is compound. Polish is polymer that fills scratches but does not remove them. It will cover them up but will not remove them. As soon as you wash it they are back. The best solution for swirl marks on a black car is 3M swirl mark remover with a foam pad on a machine buffer. Follow this with hand glaze. If you are not sure that swirl marks are removed, spray a mixture of water and alcahol on the panel and wipe off. This will clean any polish or wax off and tell for sure if they are gone. After the machine glaze follow with hand glaze and finish with Meguiar's polish. Wax if you please but on a newer car with base\clear it is not absolutely needed.

Thanks yall i appreaciate the advise...i think.
I washed it last week and this week actually a couple of hours ago I washed it again...the swirls are still there just not as bad...im going to try the dish soap to get all the "wax" off and start using Zaino.
