Looks like the torque convertor bolts came loose first, the holes look oval.

Its a glide convertor....the holes have to be lengthened on an ls1 flexplate, the bellhousing and dowels center the convertor. The convertor was tight as hell, made it a bitch to take the tranny off since the plate wouldnt move, and the input shaft is too long since the housing hits the tranny tunnel! No loose convertor, just too much powa!

so it takes alot of power to do that? i figure a little vibration would do the same thing? i broke a stock flywheel in and old chevy truck, does that mean i was making to much power. don't tell me you really believe that you are making so much power that, that is why it broke. it is a stock flex plate.

Sneaky, maybe you should know what the green machine has going on before you open your yapper....
Or maybe you would care to get a piece of it? Its ready for ya....or anyone else for that matter :)

if it really has that much done to it, why did you skimp on the flexplate? my whole point was, that it does not take gobs of power to do that. it could be other things that do. as far as a race goes, sure, when i get my car together, i will run you. win or loose its all fun. :) who is gonna be the pilot of the GREEN MACHINE .

Skimp? You silly bastard, there you go again opening your yapper....
ATI hasnt come out with an aftermarket flexpate yet for the ls1. It will be done at the end of Jan. But thanks though for the advice....I could use it if the part EXISTED! ATI makes bad ass shit, and we're a dealer for them, but thanks again Speaky.....

your right, i was not aware that ATI was the only place that made flexplates. but your are still not getting the fact that it could have been another factor that cause it to crack. i will never question your knowledge of automobiles agian.:)
Neither the dowels on the block to the bell or the bell itself will center the converter at all. The converter is supposed to sit in a pocket in the crank and it helps center it. All this has to be in alignment with the converter bolts to flexplate.
Wallowing out the holes in the flexplate is a poor attempt to get to get a combo to bolt up but misalignment is probably the cause of the flexplate breaking. Because it's thin metal, it flexes till the metal fatigues and breaks.
The right way to do it is to take the converter and flexplate to a converter shop and let them either , index the flexplate and drill it to center it on the converter or, have new lugs made on the converter to align with existing holes in the flexplate.
For 9 second cars, a SFI flexplate is required for safety.

Sneaky, you and I both know, its probably the crappy flexplate that just broke....what happened, we'll never know.....the HP bit was a crack, dont take shit so seriously man.....it was a JOKE!

I understand what you are saying....I know the covertor sits in the pocket where the pilot bearing goes on a manual car....the convertor lined up just fine. Its not like the convertor could move from its postion when already installed on the shaft, and bolted to the block.....last thing you do is put on the convertor bolts. Making the holes larger should not have affected the alignment of the convertor. Besides....I drove the car a countless number of hard tuning miles before we broke it. It was detonating a litte, so we got some fuel, changed the map, drove off and punched it, and bam, broke flexplate....
Ive heard of a few other guys doing the same thing with 2 and 3 speed trannys in ls1s. I think I need a flexplate made specific for the tranny to motor combo. Thanks Charlie....
