View Full Version : Got a "drag racing" ticket, what do I do ?!
CRASH

Well, I had a bad day, and I had just got off work around 8:45pm heading to the Sonic GTG. This Prelude started messing with me, so I busted his ass, and there were two cops sitting on the side of the road....the other guy ran, I pulled over quickly because I know "you may be able to outrun the car, but you can't outrun the radio". The guy was actually real nice about the whole ordeal, and only gave me a "drag racing" ticket. What can I do so that I don't have to pay a shitload of money, and have this go on my record and fuck my insurance to hell ?? Can I go see a lawyer and have them work it out for me ?? I saw someone post something about they just gave their lawyer like, $150 and they took care of it....?? Let me know what you guys have done/would have done. Thanks guys !!

I used Jim Lollar for a ticket I got going 93 in a 60. Defensive driving, $180.00 fine and 6 months probabtion (no tickets in Grapevine for 6 months). Not too bad I guess, oh and $40.00 for the lawyer. No going to court though, he takes care of it all!
Good luck!

So that was for speeding only ? I say only, seeing that it is 93 in a 60, but the racing thing is going to kick my ass. Does anyone else have any input on this ?? BTW, where is Jim Lollar ? Also, my uncle has some friends that are lawyers, but they are in Sherman, so could I talk to one of them and have him take care of it, even though he is in another county ? I don't see why I wouldn't be able to, but ya never know !  Damnit, I still have to take defensive driving for a bullshit speeding ticket I got a month ago !! Aarrrggghhhh !!

The ticket was for speeding only, but I'm sure a traffic lawyer could handle the drag racing ticket as well. What county and city was it in? Hope it's not in the same city as your other ticket, or you may be screwed. The good thing about these local lawyers is, usually they know the judges and what they can get away with. I'm not sure about a lawyer in Sherman, they may be able to help, or may not. Wouldn't hurt to ask, and maybe he has a friend down in DFW he can refer you too.

That's the bad thing....it was in the same city. $260, ugh, that sucks. :( I don't know what county Carrollton is in, but that's where it was. Grant, what did you end up doing with your racing ticket ??

Where you were, I believe it is Denton County, I just paid the $260 and was on my way.

Just paying the fine will make the ticket go on your record, thus raising insurance rates, correct ? That's what I'm afraid of most. Fuck, today was a shitty ass day ! We almost got robbed at work, then after working 12 fucking hours, I get off and this shit happens.   Oh well, shit happens, and it stinks !!

Jim got mine dismissed for 40 bucks. I highly recommend him. Screw Mallory, he is washed up. My ticket was participating in an illegal street race as a spectator.

You should be able to go to a lawyer and they can take care of it without the ticket going on your record. You will just have probation. I had a friend do it and he didnt have to pay that much. He had a drag racing and a 90+ in a 45mph zone and they were both taken care of. Just call around to different lawyers and ask for their advise.
Good Luck!

haha, I had that ticket before. I was a passenger in the car and they gave me a ticket for spectating
I didnt have a choice but to spectate.
When I called my insurance company to find out how im,y racing ticket would affect my rates I was told that racing and DWI's are pretty much treated equally.
This was with Farmers, but other companies might have the same view as well.

That was lucky! The city is who imposes the fine, so they differ from city to city. Grapevine is one of the highest for fines according to the lawyer I used. I would have done the defered adjudication myself, but on the ticket it said it is NOT available if you were exceeding the posted speed limit by 24 MPH or over, so I got the lawyer to handle it, and he did!
R U still on probabtion for the other ticket? If so, you may be in trouble there and it could appear on your record since you got another ticket in the same city while on probabtion...:(

I've had about 6 speeding tickets dismissed like that in the last 2 years in tarrant county that way.... Except for the last one i got, the cop showed up.. so I plead no Contest and will be taking defensive driving. Not saying all tickets will get dismissed, but I've been lucky enough to have most of them dismissed!

I got a drag racing ticket in Dallas. I called Jack Pettit and he did it for $55. He got me off the hook pretty much with just 6 months probation and a $120 fine.

please PM me Pettit's number, I have a racing court date coming up in Dallas.
also if you have no other probation situation in Carrollton they WILL give you defensive driving for a racing ticket

My brother got a racing ticket, only the cop was full of shit...
He put in the report that my brother was speeding in and out of traffic ( was no traffic ) and that he was caught racing..( Which he was doing the speed limit on the other side of the high way which he was racing ).......
He got 6 months Probation, i think 30Hrs community service, $500 fine, defensive driving, and some kinda panel he has to sit on, ( Victoms awareness pannel ).....
and had to sit in Jail for 15 Hrs......
The cop was a total dickhead, and the report fucked my brother....so, hes out of racing for awhile.....Ohh he can't leave the county for 6months either...

85+ in a 40, in mckinney, cost $270. Had a few more, took em to court plead not guilty cuz no radar was used, no sense in fighting them in mck cuz you ain't gonna win, best advice: drive the speed limit on 380 between princeton and 75. cops like a mofo all the time

See, I chose to do the Defensive Driving on the ticket I got a month ago. So if I do the DD before the court date, or before I go see a lawyer, do you think they will just put me on "probation" ?? Also, I didn't get a speeding ticket, just a "drag racing" ticket. The cop was actually nice about the whole thing. He said he was only going to give me one ticket and not take me to jail because I stopped so quickly. The thing is, I pulled it down into second coming onto Trinity Mills off of Josey and was about to bust on his ass, but I thought, fuck that I can't afford go to jail if I get caught. So someone post some good lawyers I should call and talk to about getting this shit squashed. Thanks again guys !!

lol, i've had my fair share too. Exhibition of acceleration, racing, contest of speed, drag racing, etc..i've got most of the tickets to prove it too.
anywho, i use James Ames as my ticket lawyer (man this sounds cheesy) i pay him 65$ and he differs it for a few months, and i get a letter telling me i owe 80ish dollars usually for one of the aobve mentioned citations, and i get probation for a month.
...most recently he got me out of a 61/35 and running a stop sign for 65$ plus defensive driving, which was 6 hours and 35$. this was 3 or 4 months after i got the tickets...
in bedford i had my car impounded and i was taken to jail for "street racing".. bail was 198$ and impound fees were 112.50 (CASH! @ 4am??!) and i had to come home at 7:30 to my mom....maybe i shouldn't have told the cop i was racing because "he peer pressured me into it".

save your money. go to pretrial and meet with the prosecutor, not the judge. the judge won't change anything for you. the prosecutor will work out a deal if he can get a guilty or no contest plea and/or keep it from going to trial. that's what the attorneys do for you.
save yourself some money and go play car salesman with the prosecutor. just keep offering deals until you come to an agreement.

Hehe, I've had seven "drag racing" or contest of speed/acceleration tickets since the early 90's. I even had one of them framed as a conversation piece, because the pig wrote DRAG RACING in big capital leters. It just looked kinda cool. Not that I'm proud of it anything:rolleyes: hehe Back in the day I way rather had a drag racing ticket than a speeding ticket. It used to only be $65-$115 event. I alwys said it was theprice of addmission and something I could deal with if the cop didn't rough me up too bad:D Now that we have jackasses in z28srunning over people out at the street races the ticket prices are going way up. $260 is steep Gotta watch for them Po's

Ive gotten a lawyer one time for 2 tickets (no lights, license plate cover, not visable from 50 feet) I paid a lawyer 50 bucks a ticket. 3 Months later i got a letter in the mail saying he got one lowered and the other was the same. In the end i paid 100 for the lawyer and nearly 150 bucks. Everytime ive gone to court without a lawyer, with multiple tickets, ive always had one dropped or lowered.
Id just go to court and plead no contest.
