PowerPoint question: animation (fading in)

Could someone with PowerPoint knowledge please IM or PM me? I have to make a presentation this Friday and am having some trouble understanding some of the animation functions. The options for what I want to do seem so straightforward, yet when I view the show, it doesn't seem to be doing what I specified.
