Power Supply?

"Please Help me If you can" :confused:

How do you know if the power supply went bad. My uncle was playing Delta Force 3 and it locked up. He said that he tryed to press cntl-alt-delete but nothing happened so he held the power button in and nothing happened. So he unplugged the power connector from the back to shut it off. He then plugged the power back in and he couldnt get the computer to come back on. This is where I come in. He asked me to try to fix it. I have done everything that I could think of besides to change the power supply . Any help or suggestions would assist me alot. Thanks David :confused:

Sounds like the disk is dead. Does it even power on?

No it doesnt evan power up thats why I thought it might be the power supply.

Listen for shorts or odd sounds when you turn it on. Make sure everything is plugged up correctly, if some how a ide cable came loose, in some cases it wont boot up. When I troubleshoot stuff like this, i just start pulling stuff, trying to boot the computer, pull something else out, try again, etc. . . untill I figure out what device was causing the issue. IMHO, if the power supply went out, the computer would have just shutoff, so I doubt its your powersupply, and in the 10 years I've been using computers, I've had only one go bad.

The computer will NOT power up at all. NO POWER! NO LIGHTS, NOTHING. I have already unplugged everything one by one and still nothing.

If you unplug everything from the power supply and plug it in and the fan on the power supply will not spin up, the power supply is dead.

I am guessing power too. Ive fixed alot that have gone out. If you need a really cheap one, you can get a 230 watt at Microcenter for $19.99.

Its the power supply! I have seen hundreds go bad in my 3 years working at a computer shop.

I am not saying that it isn't the power supply but I am with Cruz on this. I am think that if it was the power supply wouldn't the pc have shutdown instead of locking up? I have been around computers for almost 15 years and never had a bad power supply.

Do this for me, find the CMOS jumper by the CMOS battery, move it over from 1-2 to 2-3 and leave it for 10 seconds and then move the jumper back. See if it comes back on, make sure the switch on the back of the power supply is turned on and the cable is properly inside the 20 pin ATX connector on the board. If nothing happens, I would get a new power supply first and if that still doesnt work your board is fried.
