they run good with a good driver. i saw a clean one at denton over the summer runnin 8.3 at 83 mph on tiny street tires. i believe it was pullin 1.9 sixty's. i'm pretty sure all it had was muffler, downpipe, intake, and boost controller at 15 psi.

Dude, be very very careful. I have seen at the street races a few years ago, a white talon run off and leave a built supercharged 95 cobra and a 96 cobra. That thing ran 9's low 10's easy in the quarter, not the 1/8th. He had little slicks on all 4's and that thing took off like a rocket.....If they want to race you, knowing what you have, then look out or be embarassed.

awd talons are ALL launch..stock that is...so if u dont hve drags or slicks run him from a roll...last i checked they run high 14's in 1/4..stock that is...and i ran a white awd talon about 3 years ago in a conv cobra with 150 shot and he got my off the line but once we hit third i caught and pulled :)

with the AWD talons making power, here is your best bet:
get him to run you repeatedly from a stop, in an almost hot-lap situation. wait for the shitty diamond star trans. to cough up some gear clusters!!! :D
they are street-tough cars, and even tougher with more boost and a real intercooler *not the shitty thing they refer to as an intercooler*

Did this car have "Alamo Autosports" on the side with a big Mexican guy driving?

Don't remember, that was in late 96. We were in carrollton or F.B. on a 3 lane by some shipping dock. Cops rolled in, we scattered, drove by a little later and the talon was on the car hauler being impounded!! I guess they carted him off to jail? But man, I'll never forget that little car, it made us mustang guys look very very slow. I was only a spectator, but damn that car was talked about for awhile and still to this day, those that remember that night talk about it. I'm not a ricer fan by any means, but that lil bastard was awesome.

Yep that was Wes. I used to work with him at Alamo Autosports. That car was viscious. It was ALOT faster than it should've been becuase he could drive the hell out of that car. The funny thing was, it wasnt a fast track car. It only ran a 12.1 at (this is a guesstimate) 118 mph. Very fun times.

I guess I just remember it faster than it was, I do remember it just walking off those 2 cobras. What ever happened to that car, did he go to the pokey that night???

The car was bought by my brother and he has built the motor and stepped up to a larger turbo. Wes kind of hangs out and plays games on the computer. I have never seen anyone who could work on DSM cars more efficiently than him.
My 95 Talon has gone as fast as 8.82 in the 1/8, that was with an air cleaner and a muffler.

i pulled a 1.75 60' on SP8000 all weather tires in my AWD turbo talon and a Gentle Launch. On the street i could drop it at 5500 and Stomp just about anything off the line. as a matter of fact.. i NEVER lost in that car from a stop.
if you are running 8th mile.. better come out on slicks if he knows what he is doing.
what are his mods?

you would be surprised.. there are Several running LOW 13s with basic bolt ons.. but with a cheap turbo upgrade like the 16g ( which uses the stock exhaust manifold and is a direct bolton) they can go DEEP in the 12s and be Monsters from a stop.
d.
I dont know how many of you are old school racers. But about 4 years ago there was a kid out of Plano named Andy Kraft. He had a AWD Eclipse (samething as a Talon of course) that looked totally stock except some aftermarket wheels. I was driving down Northwest Hwy in a friends Grand National, just got done detailing and thought I would go for a cruise. (This GN ran 12.20's in drag radials) Andy pulled up next to me and I heard his blow off valve and since I was driving the GN it was a good exuse to have a lil fun. We pulled up to the light and we both spooled up. (This GN would do 1.7 60ft effortlessly too btw. ) Light turn green and he jumped out 3 lengths right away and just kept going ! I couldnt believe it. We pulled over to talk and he told me about his car. I couldnt believe it until he took me for a ride. On street tires the way it sat in street tune it ran 11.30's !! 6 months later Andy won the big Import Nationals street division with a 10.86 ! Pissed me off too, damn thing still got 25mpg +
Anyways, old school racers would remember this lil black Eclipse with a tiny lil preppy kid (Andy)driving it. He would come out on street tires to the street races and beat trailer cars by lengths. A buddy of his that ran around with him also had a red Talon turbo and nitrous, it wasnt as fast about 11.90's or so, it just didnt have the huge turbo and fully built motor. The other car that was with them alot was a green 4 door AWDGalant, kid named Jason driving also on nitrous. It wasnt as fast as the other 2, but came off the line like its ass was on fire.

For the record I am a big fan of the talon/eclipse/laser awd platform (and galant for that matter). As far as full race trim, these cars are more akin to SSO or renegade than they are comparible with Pro 5.0. The majority of these times are Hot Street and renegade competitive. Make no mistake, several of these awd vehicles would benefit from a rwd change over as Buscher's 7.8 car would attest. Shepard's 9.3 car is also fully streetable and legal with a full interior. I think they are pretty quick and very interesting little cars. Don't be fooled there are a few quick ones running around on the street too.

I have seen plenty of renegade cars that were streetable but not daily drivers. I think if it follows the definition of the term, its not being used loosely, and from what I've heard Shepard actually cruises his car to work once in a while.

that's my point people use streetable..but dont drive daily that's my personal true definition of streetable
92AWDTalon
11-18-2002, 02:14 PM
Shepards is streetable as in inspected and driven to work 3-4 days out of the week. Streetable does not necessarily mean daily driver, it means the vehicle is capable of being driven on the street legally.
Schargedcobra97
11-18-2002, 02:20 PM
and that's why i say braggin about being streetable...is stupid...and ok one car is driving daily

The whole point of this thread was to find out how fast these cars can be on the street. Not to compare apples to oranges. I applaud what has been done with what can be considered a somewhat limited platform. Mustangs and even Camaros are alot faster once you start talking Pro Mod cars. Its a winless debate.

Point taken JMHls1.
With minimal mods, I have seen them run mid to low eights in the 1/8th and thirteens in the 1/4. Once the 14b comes off and you start pumping them up then they begin to run.

Thats whats cool about those cars. Makes for a super fun daily driver that can run low 12's with some boost and race gas.:D

My friend actually sold that white 92' car to Wes back in 95.
He bought a 94 and had that for a while..broke it several times, built a forged motor and 20g in 96. Sold that, bought a 96 LT4 C4, sold that, bought another built up 91 talon from some guy in TN that ran 11.7@120 first time out. He now has a T04R single turbo supra and the the talon is for sale cheap(7500)
It's got 264 cams, ported head, frank 3, 95 manifold, forged assembly, welded diff, ACT 6 puck, Should be making ~450 to the ground or so, maybe more on leaded race gas..

Andy graduated from Texas A&M and lives up here again. He had a Vette last I knew and got rid of the Talon. Talk about a sleeper. One of the original imports that got my attention...and he did it five or so years ago...
I remember Andy, he was the first one with a ball bearing turbo. I also used to run around with Glen in the red Talon, 3 spoke wheels. Augie (now at Jotech I think) had the baddest DSM around but I never saw it at the track. The Galant was a dude named Jason Crum.

He's been to Kennedale a few times this year. He now has a bottle and the car isn't any faster. Probably not the driver though:)

You are a fucking retard. Maybe we can set you up a race with our friend Shane, from a roll. I know he took out Silverback a couple of times on the highway. And Silverback's car is no slouch. (over 370 rwhp and 410rwtq)
I know Glen's car ran neck and neck with my friend's mustang that had a 347 with a 150 shot, from a roll too.
