Do you consider race gas a power adder? [Archive]

Seems some cars run much much better with it. I kinda see it as a power adder of sorts.
1. You don't have it all the time
2. You lose 50hp or more without it

I know the turbo cars,blower cars really depend on it.

Sure you can go with a more aggresive tune with high octane but in actuallity it lowers hp. Given the same tune and all things remaining equal you will make more hp on 87 octane than you will 100.

Definitely not a power adder...and if it is considered a power adder, then you must also consider a more aggressive tune a power adder (as was said above) :)

I'd say yes it is a power adder. I know it allows you to have a more aggressive tune but a turbo/supercharger alows you to stuff more air into a motor and N2O puts more oxygen in the motor. Most races don't allow some fuels because it offers too much of an advantage. Why wouldn't you consider anything that adds more power to your car a power adder?

Definately not a power adder in the sence of nos, blower, turbo. It will cost you a lot of power without enough ignition, correct plugs, etc.

dude. bullshit.. maybe in your current setup on pump you would pull me. but based on the pathetic show you did against om on 15ish #. you would have seen tail lights on 18# and pump gas.. so.. i have a 100 % stock motor.. Stock turbos that came WITH the car..
so.. my bigest mod is a fmic.. which is a bolt on. since i had an intercooler stock..

none of the 03 cobras are running stock boost.. are you going to get out and make them put on the stock pully before you race??
you have a built motor.. IE.. you pulled it out.. rebuilt it.. hence.. its NOT STOCK... my motor and turbos are 100% bone stock..
oh. i guess it was ME who said " so you need turbos to pull on a ls1"
so.. lemme reverse that.. so you need almost TWICE the motor to pull on my little 3.0 with 2 STOCK turbos.

I gotta back my man Feldman on this on, JC...not flaming, not trying to instigate a war here...

I can vouch for Feldman's "truthfulness" in retelling a race, I can vouch for his interest in seeing how his car stacks up TWICE...once on pump gas and again on race gas. When I put my cam in he was on pump gas, I pleaded to run him anyway, with the assumption that he would want to run again on race gas when he got some. On pump gas I pull cars on him, like, in the 5-7 car length range....on race gas I only put about 1-2 on him. And that's the point, he wants to see how he does in both scenarios...I also know that's what he wanted to do in racing you, he even told me that's what he wanted to do BEFORE racing you. "I want to run JC on both pump and race gas to see how I do running a strong cammed LS1..."

This situation is like me telling people I put 5-7 cars on Feldman. Period. And not mentioning the fact that he mixes in some paint thinner and runs a helluva lot better. :)

I think on race gas you two will be very close - and it'll be a good race - you guys should go out and do it and see how it turns out :)

Jim- Let me reiterate, I have and had no problem with obliging WL with another race. But like him I wanted to get my clutch and a few other things first. (like a clutch). So I've been waiting.

As far as "harping" I mean, I'm a smack talker. It's all in fun and lots of people know that if you need something from me and I have it, it's yours. This smack talk is just for fun. Sometimes you get beat down, sometimes you win. I don't get upset because that's how the game is played.

Ya'll act like my car was at 100%! Ya'll are killing me here!

That's crazy! I'm not going over 120 if I can help it. If you can't pull me from a 40-120 then the race is a draw. 120 is dangerous for F-bods with 100% stock suspension. :)

Back to the original thread -

A motor has a certain octane requirement to run at
it's optimal tuning settings. If you run less octane
then you have to detune the engine for safety -
reduced boost, retarded timing, rich, etc.

Any more octane than what is required reduces
power.

My T/A has about 12:1 compression. Race gas is
a requirement, not a power adder.

My GT runs just fine on 89 and 18 degrees of timing.
It's noticeably doggier on 93.

This is retarded, so basically what you're saying is that you payed 35K + for what, the looks? You keep saying "6" banger like it's nothing, it is far superior than most other motors, and it needs TWO turbos, like that's nothing, oh and it's forged, like that's nothing. Quit using that "lil 6 banger" excuse, your motor cost's TWICE as much as an LS1 and about 10 times as a 302. Give that TIRED excuse up.
