Black 03 Cobra on Midway 9/26? [Archive]

Was it anyone on the board? I was in my Silver 00 GT and we played a little going south from just north of belt line and a little south. I know that road is not the best for traction but it was a good race considering I had two people in the car.

The cobra had about a 1 car lead and I missed third......a very, very rare occurance, and he was gone. That car was whisper quiet.

I am now convinced that I will not buy an 03 cobra because my car with a blower would destroy an 03 Cobra due to weight.

Just wondering who it might have been, it looked black or very dark blue.

aggie, with your current mods, if you added on a Vortech SQ-Trim Supercharger, stock boost, and got a good tune (JMS) I'd say you'd have close to 400rwhp. Maybe a bit less. Anyway, I don't think it would put you in modded '03 territory. Some '03s have been putting down upwards of 380rwhp. True, those are factory freaks, but still.......thats a bunch of power STOCK. Just an observation, but your car would definately be even better with the supercharger :D

I dont know about destroy one but you can get about 415 rwhp from a Vortech SQ setup on a SOHC along with a good tune and a few misc parts.

First off the 03 will not go boom #####! A gt with 400 hp will send that plastic intake sky high. Next thing I ran an 03 the other day and got my ass handed to me. I have most the same mods you do and a little extra. :rolleyes:

when i bolted a vortech blower (stock pully) on to my 96GT, I dropped 1.2 seconds in the 1/4 mile and gained 10mph. from a 15.0X at 92.X mph to a 13.8X at 102.x... it could happen!

Well, first of all, take into account that the 03 with driver weighs 450lbs more than my car with me in it and the gap closes. I know traction at that intersection is limited but I did not by any means have my ass handed to me. 1 car length up to third gear with 3 people in my car meant he was spinning and probably could not drive.

My thoughts for the supercharger install are the following and 03 cobras can run and hide.

Bullet intake, lightning MAF, steeda fuel pump, 42lb injectors, ATI P1SC at 12 psi, tune and about 435rwhp. Built shortblock later when things go BOOM and probably a tremec as my t-45 is starting to act funny.

I probably won't start with the bullet intake as I think I will only see about 10psi with the P1sc and intercooler.

If it goes boom, I will build the bottom end and P&P the heads with some cams and beware of the 500rwhp mark.

These are lofty dreams, but money is starting to build up and I am hoping for the SC by January.

As far as dropping a full second off my times. I think it will be very easy. My best 1/8th mile time figures to a 13.44 1/4 so I think low 12's are very easy and maybe a high 11 once I am done with all the plans and prep'n the car for that much power with the right rear end, chassis mods and maybe a cage if things go well.

LOL an 03 cobra can get close to 500 rwhp with simple bolt ons, who would need to run and hide? Are you sure he was even racing?

I would be happy to meet up with you and run them so you can measure how much money you need to spend to beat an 03.

The Vortech'ed car will make 415peak right at redline and bam shift time.

The Cobra will make over 400 at 5k til redline so will the LS1.

Take it from me. I'd have more fear of an 03 Cobra that makes 415rwhp than a Vortech Cobra that makes 415rwhp. For one the 03 is gonna be sportin over 450RWTQ as well!

matter o' fact I killed a 415rwhp Vortech 4v when I had 388rwhp and 3.23 gears. From a stop and a roll.

Ok, so take area under the curve. I will give that to the 03 and an LS1. However, try to launch that torque on the street, and take into account that both of those cars weigh 400-500 lbs more. My car empty in TRACK trim, 1/4 tank and no spare/jack, is 3180 lbs with my ET streets on the car. The Cobra and LS1 may be making more power, but I bet you cannot get it to the ground and use it until the 330' mark where I am sure they would be fetching or leaving. My point is, for a car to have 120+rwhp more, and another $15k, my little GT and I did very well and held our own.

We will see. right now we are bench racing and that if fun, however, I am getting excited about getting this SC and seeing what the car can do.

For the record, the 03 in question was racing as this was the 4th time we went at it from light to light. He pulled up next to me revving his engine and I revved to and he was surprised how loud my car was and said let's go. This was not from a roll, but a dead stop, light to light. The old fashioned way for people who can drive. Not this "from a 40 punch" shit. I won't even bother with that as that is my 1-2 shift point and trying to pull in second is OK, but an LS1 has the torque and so does a cobra to pull itself out and win that type of race.

Only time will tell so let the bench racing fade until I or others can put up or shut up.

i have both ls1 and a 03 cobra and i think the cobra is more fun.i love the sound of that blower.it does lack displacement,but it's a real fun car.i will have to beat david and some other ls1's to gain the respect for 03's.

I'd like to add on one final note if you're in a centrifugal charged Cobra and you're only seeing 415rwhp - there is something wrong.

I'm still not an 03 Cobra believer. I saw ONE run a high 11 last weekend and 4 others site nicely in the 13s. I'm not convinced.

greg's vette is to fast for me.if i'm slow then jc is a turtle.i added nos just like everyone .my car came with a blower that's not my fault.add nos to a go cart it will go faster.all i'm trying to do is go faster.i have a small shot 75.it's only to cool the charge.it makes great torque...wait till people start changing cams and heads to these cars and get a better fuel systems.they will compete with any other car out there.speed don't care if it is a ls1 or an03 it's all about how much money you dump into it.anyone can go fast in anything if they got money...

My GT was running 10lbs plus the Anderson powerpipe which gave it 1-1.5 more I would say... The power was peaky......

The Cobra has much more power under the curve..... If morey loses.... I would like to try.... :)

Was it anyone on the board? I was in my Silver 00 GT and we played a little going south from just north of belt line and a little south. I know that road is not the best for traction but it was a good race considering I had two people in the car.
