His name is Chandler and he is 10 years old. He was in a car accident about 2 1/2 weeks ago east of Shreveport. He was with his grandparents and older brother who is almost 13. All the others are fine, but he took the brunt of the wreck.
They were parked at construction on I-20when a truck going near 80 mph slammed into the back of their car. His older brother required staples in his head but is fine now. The grandparents are fine.
Chandler had some severe facial injuries as well as a bad burn on his arm(left sides). He also has had some brain damage/trauma and the doctors do not know the extent of it yet. However through the grace of God, he is showing great signs of recovery. At first he didn't even know his parents, could barely say one word at a time, and there was concern whether he would be able to see out of his left eye.
He now knows his family and just over the weekend was starting to put sentences together and is walking better by himself. He's having to learn things all over again basically, but things are coming back to him quickly thank the Lord. He is able to see with his left eye. He just had reconstructive surgery on the left side of his face, but is recovering well.
He has always been a strong willed boy, which was a plus in helping him to survive this - but bad for rehab... He's not cooperating well with his physical therapists and he get's agitated easily. I can't really blame him..
Specific requests:
1. 100% recovery that will amaze the doctors and bring glory to God. Some of this is already happening.
2. That he'll cooporate more during rehab and be able to go home soon. They are at a rehad house at Baylor Med.
3. Strength for his parents and family who've all been through a great deal as well.
4. That his father(Chuck) and family will be able to deal with anger they have towards the person who caused the accident. Appearantly he just walked away unhurt. He was in someone elses truck and only has bare minimum insurance.
Thank you and sorry so long.
