I just bought a JL Audio 10W3 from 'DarkPony'...

On the sub, there is 2 terminals, both of them have a + and a -

When I got it, he had a wire going from one of the +'s to the other terminal onto the -.

What does this do? Should I still bridge the amp connection?

Also, it is an 8ohm sub, should it be bridged?

Thanks
Shawn

Shawn,

The way Darkpony has it wired is called series. The sub isn't really an 8 ohm sub, it is a 10W3-D4 which means that it has two 4 ohm voice coils. When wired in series the sub looks like it is running at 8 ohms.

What kind of amp are you running to it? I would bridge the amp as long it is not pushing too much power for the sub, I think 10W3 max at 500w so if your amp RMS's at 250-350w and peaks at 500w, go for the bridge. If it runs over that then you better watch how much power you pump or you are going to end up with a fried coil or worse.
