View Full Version : New best on motor for my car....
Went to the Denton track tonight and had a great time. Let me just say that the track itself is top notch now and so is the staff. I was very impressed with the pits, the track itself and the way it was all ran. One of the guys who works there actually came up to my car in the pits and told me thanks for coming out and that he was working on making the place even better. i have been racing for close to 15 years and this has NEVER happened at any track I have been to. It was nice to hear someone say that, they will be getting my business for a long time to come.
Anyway, I ran my car a couple of times, all these passes were on motor and this is the fastest my car has ever gone NA, the previous best being 8.14 at Kennedale close to a decade ago.
First pass, on 275/40ZR17 Nitto drag radials.
60 ft. 2.11
330 ft. 5.55
1/8 mile 8.22 @ 91.54 mph
Second pass on 28X12.5 ET streets.
60 ft. 1.63
330 ft. 4.71
1/8 mile 7.31 @ 93.67 mph
Third pass...lowered tire pressure on the ET streets and added a little fuel but it didn't hook as well.
60 ft. 1.67
330 ft. 4.77
1/8 mile 7.39 @ 94.09 mph
Fourth pass...added more fuel since it picked up a little mph on pass #3. I was headed in the wrong direction IMO.
60 ft. 1.67
330 ft. 4.82
1/8 mile 7.45 @ 93.04 mph
Humidity was also steadily rising from pass number one, we had storm front coming in and the air was getting worse all night. I made one final pass but was trying to footbrake and rolled through and redlighted! DOH! None of these passes were on the transbrake...note the crappy 60 ft.

Really awesome times AL P! Your stang runs very strong. Did you ever get that problem fixed with the oil from the valve covers?

your car was running pretty good, I'm sure there is probaly more left in it to considering the situation. I can't wait to see what it's going to do when you get that blower strapped up there.
yeah in the 11's for sure probaly real low close to the tens.
I am also impressed with the changes so far to the track, it will be the best 1/8 mile track around soon.

Manny,
What did your Cobra run?

it ran a couple of 6.9's but we were only making 10 psi and had a pretty fat tune in it. We will have to change up the pullies a little now. We plan on running about 20 psi when everything is said and done. We still have a couple bugs to work out, but soon enough it will come along to were we want it to be.

Congrats on your times. How much time do you expect to gain from the power adder you are gonna put on?

Awesome man! Your Cobra is really something else! 6.9 is unbeleivable man! Congrats. I cant wait till you get the tuning issues resolved and run that boost up to a whopping 20 PSI of cylinder shattering boost.

I saw some of your runs; looked real strong and
almost as loud as NDSP.

Not bad Al......anytime you can run low 7's in a Na car, you are doing pretty good. Use the transbreak next time...would be nice to see what a 1.5x or better 60' would do.

Good numbers there Al. I'm glad to hear that Denton is finally shaping up in to a good track.
Do they have the paved entrance road done yet?
Well, i think that next time I go to the track I will hook up the transbrake and hopefully it will pick up a tenth or two in the 60 ft. The thing had no nuts off the line, it barely hit the tires at all. About 80 ft. out when it really started pulling it started to hit the tires pretty hard, besides that one point though, my granny could drive it. I could only footbrake it to about 2000 RPM last night before it would start to push through the lights too so I am sure its going to pick up a lot leaving off the button, we will see soon.
I am hoping (fingers crossed) that I can run a 6.30 to 6.40 or so with 10 psi when the blower is on there, that would be nice anyway, then go faster from there.

Al nice runs. the car is strong as hell on motor. Can't to see it run on blower.
And oh yeah...one other thing I forgot to mention...I drove it from Plano to Denton, then drove it home!:)
Geez, almost a full second by switching tires... :)
Great runs AL! The coil-overs working well?

I haven't even got them on there yet! I had to order some brackets from HAL to mount them up in the stock location. I didn't want to use that crossbar mount that came in the kit until later.
As soon as the wife gets a job I am going to come and see you about the HAL coil overs for the front (I have the ground pounder junk now) and some 325/50 drag radials. i still owe you $20 for shipping too, I haven't forgot about ya!!

Is the car still controlled by SP/FP/F.A.S.T. setup?
Nice to know you can still have drivability-what rear gears are you running?
I can't stand the thought of 4k rpm at 80mph :\

Yes it is still controlled with the FAST setup. My O2 sensor isn't working though so I am guessing on the Af at the moment. i think I have it pretty close.
I am running 3.73s out back. The rear gears are dead on for running the 1/8, i am going through the lights at 7000 RPM. Not sure about the quarter yet but we will see I guess. The thing tachs 3000 RPM at 60 mph and it DRINKS freakin gas...it used 3/4 of a tank driving to Denton making those 5 passes and then driving home. i know I am not running it rich either...I can lean it out about 3% and it starts sputtering so i know the AF is pretty close at cruise speed. That is the reason why i want to get some tall DRs from Lane. The Nittos that I have now are 25.7 inches and that isn't helping at all. Something about 27 inches tall would help a bit I am sure.

yeah I definately need some taller drag radials for cruising. Mine was tacking 3,500 at 60 mph and like 4000 at just a little over 70. We got a chance to do alot of part throttle tuning. Hey btw when we got back to the shop we switched out that module and it was back to normal. We then took it back out for some more tuning it feels pretty good but I can't wait to put the other 10 psi on it. Yeah and it is definately a gas hog!!!

The BFG drag rad is available in a 275/60 -15 that works out nicely....just wished they hooked up a bit better...
Also, if you have some 18x10's lyin around Nitto has a 305/45-18 thats 28.5x12approx-fookin huge....
Awesome times regardles...and whats this 10psi bullshit :)...heheheheh

Not bad AL..................
I thought I would throw in here.....I ran 7.0 @ 102 on a bad clutch!
I thought you would stomp me from a stop! I can pretty much pull those times on street tires.
I am not knocking the ride....I was just wondering if that is all you can get out of it at this moment.
I was figuring mid 6's with your setup. The way everyone else was talking shit to me about your car....you would think they knew something I didn't. However I did guess your car to run a low 12 - high 11. Whats the dealy yo? I know you have a low compression motor for a blower., but aren't you making monster power?
Anyways..................good job...............get a blower!:D
I could probably manage close to a 7.10 or so on my transbrake. Those times were with a 1.6X 60 ft., in the past with a stick the car has done 1.51 60 fts. So it might be close race with the brake. To me that sounds like we need to setup a race! Afterall, its like I told Shane, its who gets to the line first, not the quickest ET so remember you are also going to have to cut a light.
And the 7.31 is good for about an 11.40 or so.
Get that clutch in there and let's line them up!

I been meaning to get a fuel pump in that thing for months. Although I did get a plasma cutter recently so I predict even more weight loss soon! ;)

AL,
Not bad when you think about how HOT it has been. You might get close to 6 in the 1/8 in cool air.
Zosense,
7.0@102 where you spraying? seems kinda hard to beleive on motor.

It is going to run 6.99 before the blower, that is my goal. There is ET hiding in a few different places in it and I am going to squeeze it out. Then it will be that much faster on the blower :)

Ohhh hell yeah he was spraying. I thought it was pretty clear and had been established that ALs car on motor isn't gonna be as fast as Darren's with a 150 shot. The kid just likes to talk shit like he's being all sly about it, but he's really just stating the very obvious.
