View Full Version : Help with the washing machine!
I just went out to put another load of clothes in and the ones that were in the washer were still soaked. So I tried putting it on just the 'spin' cycle and I could hear the motor going, but nothing was happening. So I took all of the clothes out and ran it from the 'rinse' cycle. Again, I hear the motor, but it's not rotating the center column. It drains the water and goes into the 'spin' cycle, but again, only the motor is working.
Any ideas or is there someone who works on appliances? We leave Saturday for vacation so this really sucks. :(

Fucker, if I wasn't packing for one kid to be gone for 2 weeks (away from us), getting ready to take 2 kids back to my ex AND packing/trying to get ready for our vacation, which is for a week, I would SOOOOOO be all over you. Now STFU unless you're ready to come fix my machine!! :damnit1:
Thank you :)

It's about 6 years old or so. It's not that old. It's a Kenmore, I think.

It was quite easy to replace mine, took about 15 minutes from start to finish, you have to take the back off and inspect where they put the belt, mine was in the bottom, take a flashlight and you will probably find the belt shredded, just hanging there.
Mine used a three finger piece of rubber on both the drum and motor side. Also easy to replace.

I'm guessing it's the belt too.. Didn't get a chance to pull it apart tonight, maybe tomorrow. I was doing other manly work: Draining the fuel water seperator on the truck, replacing the fuel filter, chasing down issues with fuses... I feel so manly now. Or maybe I'm just still dizzy from all of the diesel fumes I inhaled today. :p

Being high on diesel fumes is still manly.

Don't forget that the diesel fuel won't wash itself off of your clothes :raincloud:

I was about to say, that you need to lay the smack down. However, it does appear you were busy with more important things. The sinks and tubs are backup washing machines. Fixing a truck - now that's important.
Yeah, does sound like a belt issue.

On that note, if it turns out just being a belt, anyone know where I would find them locally? Is that a home depot type thing or will I need to go somewhere special?

When did you get a diesel? What did you get? I'm assuming it replaced the Armada?

it's probably the belt if the thing doesnt move in any cycle.
my washing machine had a similar problem, but it would still agitate in the rinse cycle, it just wouldnt kick into the high speed spin. the cheap clutch was fried.

Well, it's kind of like this... We turned in the Armada (lease) and didn't intend to replace it because I had the company car (and the Mustang). Then, 2 weeks later I was laid off and had to return the company car. I wasn't sure what was going to happen as far as work and we didn't want to pick up a new car note.
So we were left with a 5 person family, owning only a 4 seater Mustang.. Luckily Leah's Mom had this 1999 F350 sitting in her driveway that they no longer used (had been sitting over a year), so until Leah is back to making full time teacher pay I am pimping the lawn guy truck (2wd Crew Cab, Long bed with bad paint and a couple of dents). Couple of batteries, couple of tires, oil change, registration, inspection, fuel filter and a good cleaning and I am on the road with no vehicle payment.
The good thing is that based on the look of the truck everyone probably assumes I don't have insurance so they get the fuck out of my way with a quickness. :D
I've been driving it since mid Feb and like alot of things about it (all except the paint and length) so my intention is that when we are ready to purchase I will probably be getting an F250 Crew Cab Diesel.

I usually just order the parts online. For the most part I figure out the part number, then shop around to make sure there are no major price differences and pick the one that people seem to be happy with. Granted, I've only order a few parts over the last couple of years now so it's not like I have a recommendation. It's just how I decide where to order.

i did this for my fridge. A relay went out a couple of weeks ago, i found the direct replacement, got the part for $38 bucks, compared to 50 on some websites.

if you end up buying a new washer I just got the maytag bravos washer and dryer a few months ago and I love them. I can put in more clothes than I could with my old washer and have them washed and dried in less time than I could with a smaller load in my old washer and dryer.
