Getting the itch for a BluRay player. Some have internet access and all kinds of bells and whisltes. I am more of a Sony man..........any suggestions?
Oh, what is a cool BluRay DVD to play and demo to the neighbors?

Hell, I have a Magnavox NB500MG9 Bluray player from WallyWorld and it's great. Just go to Amazon or Newegg and sort by Manufacture for Sony Bluray. Read the reviews/spec's and decide what you're willing to pay for.
In terms of demo material do you mean audio or picture quality?
If you want to wow people with PQ then watch Ratatouille on Bluray in 1080p. Speed Racer or Discovery Planet Earth series in Bluray are visually impressive.
If you have a competent Home Theater and a receiver that can decode High Def audio, then acoustic demo material comes in abundance with BD. Cloverfield in Dolby TrueHD or Flight of the Phoenix has served wonderfully at getting a "holy hell" response from friends and family. Other great BD audio demo material would be The Incredible Hulk, The Dark Knight, Underworld in Uncompressed PCM, Rambo DTS-HD MA, Master & Commander DTS-HD MA, Max Payne, etc..
