Well decent draft considering the picks they had, and this years draft didn't offer anything to get excited about. Kidd now has a 3 year deal. He's obviously not the best but we could do worse I guess. Which sucks to see him in the decline because I've always been a huge JKidd fan (I even have his high school jersey ). The rest of the conference has already gotten better. The Mavs need to pick it up! I hope the Marion trade happens. I think he can bring some energy they desperately need (If he plays like he did with Nash). The downside is that it would most likely ship out Howard or Stack, which isn't making them better.

Thoughts or predictions?

The Marion signing looks good, but from what I read yesterday, they'd only be losing Stack (and his contract), but nothing about Howard. Maybe there have been some more updates since then. Guess I need to go read now. Also, if we got Marion, I hope Bass doesn't bolt via free agency. He's a solid backup.

I'm not a fan of resigning Kidd for how much they did. Now Mavs blew a big chunk of their salary cap and don't have much to work with.
It seems other teams are making smarter moves than we are.
I know Mavs are looking at Gorat, and Shawn Marion. Marion has been in the league for quite some time, he hasn't been very consistant since he left the Suns.
Look at some of the free agents Mavs could have tried for:

Mike Bibby
Ben Gordon ---Would have liked Gordon being here!
Stephon Marbury
Allen Iverson
Lamar Odom
Grant Hill

But no, give Kidd the old man too much money. Now they might not be able to resign Bass which would be a foolish mistake on their behalf.

Best bet for the Mavs is to save what salary cap they have till next year, too many big names will be available and hopefully we can pull off something great. Or they'll give Kidd a contract extension and ruin it all :yell:

marion would be a good move and losing stack would be even better. they shouldnt have to do anything with howard and should still be able to resign bass but the problem
kidd @ 7-8 mil a year isnt bad. 3 years is a bit long.

a dood on the ticket seems to think avery johnson is going to detriot and will want to take dampier with sending hamilton to the mavs. good move but we would need another center since gortat wouldnt be enough.

Avery wanted 4 years........Det was only offering 2 with an option........doesn't look like he'll be going there.

New news...mavs have signed Quentin Ross. Also, looks like this trade for Marion/Stackhouse might move forward. Looks like it could be a 3 way deal involving the Memphis Grizzlies.

Looks like the Marion trade is official. Marion and Humphries to the Mavs.
D George and Antoine Wright to the Raptors and Stackhouse to the Grizz.

I don't like losing Wright for Humphries. Escpecially since Humphries has two years left on his contract but Marion is a huge upgrade.

The Matrix was good pickup. Now, if we could only get rid of Ericka then we should be somewhat of a contender. I know somebody's gotta want his expiring contract.

Oh and are the Mavs trying to build a team for the AARP league? We probably have the oldest team in the NBA now. All our "good" players are past 30. Mmm...

Either way, Go Mavs!!

DALLAS (AP) -- Shawn Marion is headed to the Dallas Mavericks, Jerry Stackhouse is going to the Memphis Grizzlies and Hedo Turkoglu is going to Toronto Raptors in a complex deal involving four teams.

The deal, announced Thursday, involves five other players, a draft pick and cash.

Among the other pieces: Forward Kris Humphries and center Nathan Jawai are going from Toronto to Dallas; guard Greg Buckner is going from Memphis to Dallas; and swingmen Antoine Wright and Devean George are going from Dallas to Toronto.

Memphis also is getting a second-round pick and cash from Toronto. Orlando is getting cash from Dallas and Toronto in exchange for dealing Turkoglu.

I'm actually glad that Devean George is gone. He really was just a waste of space while here.

This trade was pretty sweet. We gave up Stackhouse, Devean George and Antoine Wright (didn't play, didn't play and was decent) for Marion, Buckner, Humpries and Jawai. I know nothing about Humphries (F) or Jawai (C), but we gave up one player that was in the rotation for a starter and a solid backup. Good deal in my view!

You guys are so down on Dampier, but he did a pretty good job in the playoffs this year. If anything, I would want to deal Howard now. Howard is hurt too often, and the Mavs have too many Forwards now.

We like old people. Let's sign a broken Mutombo or Shawn Bradley. Or Let's go old school and get Roy Tarpley, or Olajuwon or how about Patrick Ewing?

Mavs are dumb to think someone is going to let Gortat walk for free. They'll at least trade him to get something in return.

Only the stupid Mavs let great players walk for free (ie. Steve Nash 2 time MVP).

Having said that, I'm still a Mavs fan! They just have no chance. The Mavs don't have what it takes to get past the Nuggets. We already saw that and don't even think about the Lakers.

Sucks about Gortat but i had a feeling everyone was jumping the gun. Orlando papers have been reporting for a few days the Magic GM was going to match the offer.
I agree, we should have tried a sign and trade with the Magic in order to not lose Bass without something in return.

So looking at it now, we still have Damp and Hollins as our centers. Damp is way to slow to realistically give the Mavs a shot in the playoffs. That was made very apparent in this years playoffs with Denver.
Hollins has potential but is years and many pounds away from contributing on a nightly basis.

At this point, the Mavs might as well go with what they have and dangle Dampiers expiring contract as the year progresses. It will become more valuable as the trade deadline nears next February. I just don't see anyone available that can step in and make the Mavs better. Maybe Marcus Camby but i am not sure what his situation is.

Damn Dallas f'd this one up.

They could have, but as you can see they aren't the smartest when it comes to scouting and handling their roster.

Agreed, hopefully they can turn Damps expiring deal into a legit C or SG.

Who would have thought the Magic were going to match? They added so much salary this offseason and are well over the luxury tax. Just shows they are going after a title

Wow...you guys are ridiculus sometimes..LOL We were 1 missed call from coming back to dallas with chance to tie the series. The only game that denver actually beat us with game 5. I say that cause game 1 was 13 to 36 free throw advantage to...you guessed it and game 2, not mentioning that Jo Ho was out and injured, was close until the 3rd quarter when Kidd fucked it up. Not Damp or Hollins. In fact Hollins probably had his best performances in that series. He wasn't afraid to foul those "thugs" hard and didn't make any huge errors. He's young and athletic and a great change of pace from damp. Is he, or damp, the answer. Absolutely not. But I don't think you are giving either enough credit.

And it would not be smart to get rid of Howard. Injuries or not (he's only played less then 60 games twice and the other one was 59 games), we need him. Tell me Dirk, Damp, Marion, Howard and Kidd isn't a sick ass line up. Then have Terry, Stack (yeah he's old but he can still Bruce Bowen it from the corner), Hollins, Singleton, and JJ off the bench. Not too shabby. One more "Odom" element and we're looking good. I know he's not coming but one more move for a good 10+ point scorer and good D and we're even better.

Did they screw up not getting bass back??? Absolutely. But in their defense they were thinking Gortat would be here. Foolishly or not. Obviously they are gonna be trying to get something for damps contract and that's fine with me. And the rest of the Conference hasn't gotten better. SA made a great move, NO's hasn't done shit, Houston got Ariza and lost Yao, Memphis only had one way to go but up, LA lost Ariza and probably Odom but got Artest, Portland missed on Turkolou, Utah is gonna miss on Boozer, Pheonix lost Shaq but got Grant Hill back and Minn. Sac. Clips GS and OKC sucked so anything means they get better.

I don't see this as being very useful, Gooden has been with like 7 teams throughout his career. He's always been inconsistant, and never a true threat on the court. Way to go again Mavs, lose your good players and sign pathetic ones :lame:

Even though I was a big Bass fan, I would disagree. Bass is a power forward and between Dirk and Marion there was going to be almost no minutes for him. Bass is not a center and really has no low post game.

Gooden can realistically play the center position. Yes, he has played for 7 teams in 7 years but that is kind of misleading. He played solid in Cleveland for 4 years, then bounced around recently. He struggled with a couple injuries last year but still gave the Spurs some production. When healthy I think he can be a good fit for the Mavs. And we only had to give him a 1 year deal.

If the Lakers lose Odom to Miami the West could be really interesting and I see the Mavs right in the mix with the Spurs, Lakers, and Denver. Still not a believer in Portland yet and Houston is out with Yao out.

Can't wait to see the new and improved Mavs. I would like to see us resign Hollins and Singleton. Hollins has potential IMO. I think we'll get some production out of Damp this year too being a contract year. I was happy to see us sign Kidd to a 3 year deal. He should really be able to mentor Barea and Beaubois.

GO MAVS! MFFL!

Yup, considering this is the lineup with JKidd things go our way. After only losing Stackhouse and Bass I think this team is improved. Gaining a young quick PG, Gooden, and Marion puts them at better than last year.
