Looked into it for my sons playyard. Was going to be about $800 compared to about $125....

Fuck a bunch of rubber mulch. I sell the real thing, shredded hardwood...for $30 per cubic yard. If you're around the Sherman area, look me up.

It lasts longer but it takes years to recoup the costs. IMO you only use it if you want a really different color like BLUE, which it is actually available in. But, I think they offer wood mulch in weird colors too.

They state that rubber mulch is recycled from tires and that is true, but wood mulch comes from a 100% renewable resource and puts nitrogen and other nutrients into the ground as it decays. Rubber can't do that.

I've heard it really radiates the summer heat and kills the flowers. May be a good (well, better) idea in a not so hot state like Texas, or plant cactus with it.

We switched to red rubber mulch for some of our bigger potted plants.

Reason:

Last year, we bought a LOT of new organic mulch in the nice rust-red color. We put it all out. It looked badass. We left for the day, to go to work.......

and came home to our mulch scattered all over the fucking yard. We sat there and pondered on it for a second or two - then Dixie the Jack Russell came up with red paws and a red muzzle and a "whaaaat?" look on her face.

This year, we tried the recycled tire mulch - no red dogs this time.

Those of you that are paying for mulch are suckers. Certain tree pruning companies give it away. J & T's Tree Service (or is it JT's) in Fort Worth is one that i know of.

what happens when you get a big rain and all that rubber mulch flows into your yard. It will never break down and you will always find rubber pieces everywhere.

I got news for ya, that organic shit doesn't dissappear over night.

In my case, the rubber mulch is in pots. It can be a monsoon, and that shit goes nowhere.

I've just heard that the rubber does not allow enough air to the roots. Hell I don't know.
