View Full Version : Hamilton an All Star...Really???

OK, I am a die hard ranger fan, and I love to see national recognition for them, normally. This time, I am not so happy about Josh Hamilton being an All Star. He really shouldn't be even considered. He hasn't played half of this season, his batting average is .244 with 6 homers and 30 something RBI. Some centerfielder somewhere in the AL definitely is not happy, and I kind of agree. Don't get me wrong, I love his potential, and I think his defensive plays he was hurt on were great plays, but this was a purely popularity vote.
THAT BEING SAID. HOW THE F DOES DUSTIN PEDROIA FROM BOSTON MAKE IT OVER KINSLER?!?!?! Kinsler is having a way better season and is pulling his team. This is definitely a popularity vote too. I am not even sure the managers are putting Kinsler in. I think Michael Young might have made it with the players vote.
Either way its funny, popularity votes gets in one ranger who hasn't played half of this season, and doesn't put in another ranger who is DOMINATING.

It's all a popularity contest. Hamilton got in because he was amazing last year, and the homerun derby made him a house hold name. His story is very inspirational, and everyone knows who he is. I agree that his numbers this year don't make him an All Star, but the All Star game and roster has always been about popularity rather than solely based on production.
Kinsler would have made it, but he has struggedl mightily since June started. He is currenlty in a 0-21 slump, and has been hitting really poorly lately. If he had kept up his production, he would have been in over Pedroia, but as it is, Pedroia is on a much more popular team, so he got voted in.

I agree it is a popularity contest. Good points on Kinsler though. I haven't compared the numbers between Pedroia and Kinsler. I do know Kinsler has hit 19 home runs, to Pedroia's 3, but thats never the whole story. I just can't believe a guy that is pretty much carrying a team thats in first place isn't going to make it.
Kinsler carrying the team? Kinsler shot out of a cannon to start the season but has fallen OFF...I can see why he didn't make it, not saying he doesn't deserve to make it but yeah.
Milwood hands down is a travesty he didn't make it but I'm somewhat glad him and Kins aren't it. Give them as much time off as they can right now.

You know Kinsler and Millwood not making it maybe a good thing. It may put a chip on their shoulders. They both could have made it, but now they can go out and show how good they really are in real games that count.

My problem was that Millwood didn't get chosen. He's been pitching lights out all year, and in a ballpark that is far from pitcher friendly. I would have love to have seen him as an All Star

was it 2 of his first 3 starts he gave up 2-3 runs and got NO run support...
I thik if he was 10-2 vs what his record is now he would have had to get the nod over Wakefield.

WOW, I forgot about Wakefield. How did he get on and Millwood not?
Wakefield 10-3 with a 4.30 era
Millwood 8-5 with a 2.80 era
Doesn't that kind of show you Wakefield probably had more run support? Millwoods June era was like 1.30 or something crazy like that.

During the game yesterday they mentioned that Maddon picked Wakefield as a way to acknowledge his career and not necessarily on this years numbers. Again, it's all a big circle jerk. :disappointed:

Hamilton get's in on 1/2 a season...from LAST year! It's laughable, but that's baseball. Kinsler, by far, is more deserving than Hamilton for offensive AND defensive reasons.
