Apparently Sci-Fi is changing name and format, a little. The new name which takes over on 07/07/09 is "SyFy". They are getting reamed on their message boards over the change.

They are saying it is an expansion to include imagination based series/movies (I guess that explains them showing wrestling). It seems that the only source of decent(BSG) Sci-Fi entertainment is on it's way out.

Thoughts on the change?

Just another example of a unique channel going away. Were they bought out? Do we really need another "idiocracy" channel? Tech TV (G4)used to actually have useful information now they just show cops all day.

Sci-Fi Channel has sucked for years. They show some of the absolute worst made-for-TV movies evar.

Actually the story with the movies they show is that THEY make those movies. A long time ago they figured out that they didn't have enough content and decided to make their own. Most are bad. Some of them are ok.

As far as I can tell they haven't been bought out(still running a ton of USA commercials) and I haven't heard anything of the sort.

Damn straight about TechTv - I used to love that channel when I was on dish. Never really saw anything that impressed me since they changed to G4.
