just sitting here at work listening to some of my music on random and that song came on. why did i have to be born in a time of shit music? i mean there are good bands/rappers/artists here and there... but to me it seems like it's ALL about the $$ now and not about the actual music.

if you are gonna be some stupid redneck that says "rap/hiphop is for dem damn ni***s" then get the fuck out of my thread...because there are plenty of rappers and hip hop artists that make good music

anyways...just felt like saying that

I've never heard the song you're talking about, but...

I agree. I listen to a ton of different stuff, and there is definitely some good hip hop out there... you'll just never hear it on the radio.

Examples:

Jurassic 5
Swollen Members
Lyrics Born
Crown City Rockers

There's plenty of great hip-hop in the world. Unfortunately the current demographic of rap/R&B/hip-hop is the lowest of the lows in society and it's not a race thing; there are just as many stupid, spoiled, suburban white kids/"adults" that listen to Top 40 rap as there are black people that do. I could go into the reasons that Top 40 rap blows my asshole, but I figure that I'm spending the time to show good music to is already aware of those reasons.

These days, good hip-hop has to be discovered on your own or shown to you by a close friend. I used to be a dude who listened to very little other than classic rock, 90's alternative rock and the occasional jazz tune until my brother showed me the light of good hip-hop.

Here's my quintessential list of today's good hip-hop:

1. People Under the Stairs: Without a doubt in my mind I can say that these two dudes are making better music than anything, rap or not, played on the radio today. Lots of samples taken from all genres of music, great lyrics and funky melodies.

Albums to listen to: O.S.T. (Original Soundtrack), Fun DMC and The Next Step.

2. Jurassic 5: There's a line in a J5 song that goes "making 5 MC's sound like one" and that captures the essence of their sound. They'll be the most accessible group on this list and I reccomend that you start with them

Albums to listen to: Power in Numbers, J5 LP, Quality Control

3. Pete Rock: The best hip-hop producer ever, in my opinion. He's worked with everyone in the business that's worth two-shits and you've probably heard plenty of his work without ever even knowing it. Some of the most satisfying tunes available today

Albums to listen to: Petestrumentals (up there with my favorite albums ever)

That's what I've got for now. I might share more later.

Hip hop is for "stupid motherfuckers." :D

JK. I don't listen to much hip hop but I enjoy some Gym Class Heroes, Flobots, and some Three6 mafia (the shit is just funny as hell). For the most part, I just have to have real instruments playing. Not all synthesizers and shit.

You're listening to the wrong hip-hop, then.

Flobots and GCH have actual instruments. Three6 doesn't, but I only listen to some of their stuff because it makes me laugh.
