I started pricing trees earlier this year. I was looking at a 200 gallon red oak(shumard). The guy wanted 2499.99 for the tree. I figured I would wait and figure out where he is getting his trees and get one myself. I completely forgot about it till I was in canton today and saw a lady selling trees. She was wanting 150 dollars for a 60 gallon same red oak. She told me that I needed to find someone that already had the bigger trees and I could get one cheaper. So I went up the road and asked a wholesaler that had an assload of trees and they had a 300 gallon for 1700.00 or a 200 gallon for 800.00. So where do I find the grower? I need shade bad in my yard due to not having any trees what so ever. The guy that was trying to sell me that 300 gallon tree told me that if I brought my 18 wheeeler to pick it up for 1700 he would give me a tarp to cover the whole 53' trailer and would build me something to hold the tree up. So if he is going through that much trouble to sale this tree he must have nothing in it. The tarp alone is worth a fortune. 53' canvas tarps arent cheap at all. Any help would be appreciated.

$150 sounds like a good price for an installed 50 gallon tree. I'm going to have to seriously think about doing that. I would love to have my AC unit in full shade as well as a couple more trees in the back yard. Right now I just have two large bradford pear trees in the front and a very small Japanese cherry in the back yard.
I wonder how much a 50 gallon (or larger) cherry tree would cost. Those things provide a huge amount of shade.

<----- has friends in the nursery business.
The price for trees goes up exponentially with size. It has to do with both the time they have to keep the tree healthy growing it to the size for selling purposes along with the cost of equipment to handle it. Tree spades are very, very expensive. Good luck getting something in the size you want for $1500 or less.
