Anyone here mess around with Free to Air Satellite Systems?

A friend of mine has been getting his cable & PPV from a Sonic View 360 Elite & 2 dish Satellite's for the last 2-3 years. Just wondering if anyone else has tried this stuff before.

I dont, but know quite a few people that do. HD kind of sucks, but free PPV, Porn, and all the movie channels are worth the trade off.

My dad has been doing it for years and got my brother doing it also. I personally havent ever messed with it before but it seems to work pretty decent. A bit of maintnance though from what I can remember him telling me. Something about having to reflash the box every few months or something??

i've heard the same.

FTA is getting harder and harder to keep up with, much like flashing your own cards for direcTV back in the day.

I've had a Coolsat Pro 4000 for a few yrs and it was definitely more "stable" in the past. It still works but sometimes its not worth the hassle.

I know Dish Network went to Nag3 and so far no one has cracked the codes.

I have 2 360 elites with 500g Hard drives on each. I have not had to flash them since 1/8/09 but I lost all channels last week due to the NAG3 switch. There is a deal called an Ihub that connects up but it has not restored all the channels yet.

Yup but N3 has everything down for now. It will be back.

So is FTA still out? I was just about to buy a box and saw this.

I just canceled my cable and thought I saw a post on here about FTA. Is it back up, what is the long term outlook?

True FTA never went away. Signal theft is alive and well too. If I were thinking about buying a satellite receiver with the intention of getting paid programming for free, I would probably buy a Sonicview 360 Elite and an IKS dongle (which is still in beta testing). People are reporting good results.

There is a lot of paranoia around the tracking of IP address should the IKS servers be compromised so do some research before you jump in.

Confirmed RAIDS being conducted of Sonicview iHub Dealers. They are seizing equipment and checking computers on site for files. They are asking dealers what the legal use for the iHub product is. Be PREPARED, we all know the legal use is as follows: Media Playback: Video: IPTV (only available on SV 8000HD) Music: Playback of MP3 files over the network Pictures: View Pictures over the network Network Communication: Supports encrypted communication over ethernet Firmware Upgrade: monitor sonicviewusa.com for firmware upgrades. Automatically install new found firmware. Background Image: Change the feel of your receiver by downloading new backgrounds from sonicviewusa.

Im sure Slinger will be next, then they'll start hunting down those ISP's

I wonder how much success they will have with trying to get information from ISPs like QWEST (DIRECT TV) and COMCAST since the compete directly with both. I can see why they would cooperate (in theory) since a crackdown on pirates helps all of them recover lost subscriptions.

I dont think Dish would be able to get the information directly since they're still in the lawsuit with each other. Now as for the Feds getting the information, that will be a cake walk.

Here register here, they'll keep you pretty informed on whats going on card-coders.com

FTA used to be considered legal, but in the later days of the N2 they were raiding all the major suppliers. Now, they're defiantly not legal as theyre getting their signal via the internet.

Dear FTA Community:

SonicView has recently learned that DISH Network, ************************ and ***************star have filed a civil lawsuit in Federal Court in California against Sonicview and three other related individuals. SonicView intends to vigorously defend against the baseless claims made by DISH. SonicView has already retained experienced litigation counsel to help them fight these false accusations.

It has also been brought to the attention of SonicView that some of its competitors have been improperly making contact with SonicView’s distributors, dealers and customers, and maliciously conveying misleading information to them. They have falsely stated that SonicView’s distributors, dealers and customers are being raided and their inventory seized, and have intimated that SonicView’s distributors, dealers and customers may be liable or named in a lawsuit filed against SonicView.

Let’s be absolutely clear — only SonicView and three related individuals have been named in the lawsuit. None of SonicView’s distributors, dealers or customers have been sued or even identified in the allegations of the Complaint, nor are they named on any supposed list. The Federal Court has not awarded any relief whatsoever to either DISH, ************************ or ***************star. SonicView is confident that it will prevail if the lawsuit proceeds, and we (or our lawyers) will keep all of you informed of any significant developments in the future.

Your continued business is very important to SonicView. Indeed, SonicView’s success is largely dependent on you because you have worked with SonicView to make it a top selling FTA receiver. There is a reason why SonicView has been a success – the quality of the products and our customer service. You have made a choice to purchase and use the SonicView line because the quality and customer service is unmatched in the industry. It is clear that those unknown persons disparaging SonicView do so only in a misguided attempt to promote their own products – products that cannot match the quality of SonicView. SonicView intends to continue supplying products that you and your customers demand, products that continue to flourish in the growing FTA industry.

Respectfully,

Manuel de la Cerra, Esq.

Attorney for SonicViewUSA, Inc.

If said information happens to be in the Netherlands?

No new updates as far as Sonicview is concerned. It seems as though they are commited to the IKS solution but there has been no real headway in terms of adding premium channels.

It did look like the Mayweather fight and UFC 103 were both up for Sonicview IKS though.

DN dropped N3 encryption for a little while today. All of the channels were open but they have since closed it off.

Is anyone trying out an IKS solution? I have an open wireless network nearby that I can probably bridge off of with a dd-wrt router in AP mode and run a receiver with no one ever knowing the difference.

this guy designed the new N3 cards used by Dish. Looks like IKS will be the only option for a very, very long time. Also this same guy, is the person who compromised the N2 cards. He is the best of the best.

Personally, I think IKS is too risky.
