Here is what I would do.

Go and turn the breaker(s) off for a minute or two and then turn them back on.

If that fixed the problem, great.

If not, I'd turn the breakers back off the save electric and call and HVAC company of your choice to fix it.

What exactly is "staying on"? The inside blower fan? The compressor outside or outside fan ?

The vents just blow cool but not cold air and the unit or fan outside does not come on. I left it off for two days and just came home and tried it and nothing. Ima try to turn the breaker off for a couple of minutes and see what it does. Thanks

and fuck its hot inside this house...

Well I just reset the breakers and nothing. I went outside and the fan ontop of the unit was real hot. So is it safe to say that I need a new unit? Any HVAC guys on the board?

PM Progres1. He just came out and gave me several options for my dad's place this week. His prices were very reasonable and we will probably be giving him a call before too long to get a new system.

I went out to check the fan on the unit and it spun freely so maybe its not a lost cause...

thanx for the info Billybob81...
