I have a gym membership but honestly hate having to change clothes then go up there, work out then coming home changing again. Sears carries both Weider and Bowflex, now I am not looking for big ass muscles, but I want to gain some muscle and also tone existing muscles. Both companys have power rod models starting at $600 or so, are these pretty reliable?

i hate bowflex. i got one for free then used it a few times and then tossed it. i like free weights much better.

Well what was the quality like along with getting a good workout from it? I know some people like free weights over machines, but I could care less myself really.

I haven't used a bowflex for a long time, but when I did I remember the cables hitting my arms when I was working out.

I have a smith machine with a few add-ons and i love it, Ive never been a fan of bowflex.

Get some free weights and DB's. You will outgrow the bowflex. Everyone I know that bought one sold it within a year.

Adjustable dumbells, adjustable bench, and a few other odd and ends and you can cover most everything you'll want to do.

Had a bowflex and could rep 210lbs 100+ times. It's a piece of shit. I actually had a total gym when I was younger and that was 10x the machine the bowflex was at a small fraction of the cost.

Those adjustable dumbells are expensive!

Sears has them, 48#'s.

Don't forget that working out at home is the same as at a gym, you don't get results unless you actually work out.

Smith Machine, bench, fly machine, lat pull, lower row, 200lb stack, place for dips and legs,(like $1,600 new) and so on...
I think I have 350+lbs in weight, a plate holder, plus dumb bells from 20-65lbs, and a couple rubber mats.
I need to clear a room out, plus I enjoy going to the gym.

i just got a bowflex xtreme2 off craigslist for $450 bucks. came with all manuals the cd-rom for workout tracking and such. like new condish. i wanted something at home for when the old lady is outta town and i cant get to the gym we have here at work because i gotta pick up jr. it looks like it will fit the bill.

Don't waist your money on cheap stuff like Bowflex and Weider from department stores like Sears and Academy. Get the good equipment like from Hoist or Tuff Stuff. Do a search on their equipment, you definitely get much better quality. If you only have $600 to spend, then get one of their adjustable benches and some Power Blocks by Intel (adjustable dumbbells). The urethane ones they just came out with are awesome! Intel also has a really good adjustable FID (flat, incline, decline) bench as well for about $200.

I'm telling ya from experience man, don't bother with the crap at big box stores, save up and get yourself better equipment from a specialized fitness retailer.
