i am getting an error message on my xbox saying it cant connect to xbox live because of my mtu settings.
how do i get to my router configuration page to change this on an apple computer.
and any idea why it would all of a sudden do this. it has been working fine for months.

What brand and model of router do you own? Quick thing to do would be to download DRTCP and configure the MTU setting with it but unfortunately it's Windows only.

Getting the same error, when looking at network settings, was a note saying Xbox Live would be down on June 16th for up to 24 hours.

open safari, go to your default gateway ip address, probably something like
http://192.168.0.1
login, find the mtu settings, set it to 1492
probably under WAN settings or something

99% of the time there is not need to mess with mtu settings in a home environment. In fact, you can jack some stuff up pretty good messing with that setting.

You are correct. It isn't scheduled to be back up until later today.
