Its getting hot, and my dog has to stay outside during the day. I need some advice on what I could get her to stay cool.
I saw a outdoor misting fan at Walmart for $70, but that uses water and electricity $$$
Id buy a small AC unit if there was one out there cheap enough, and attach it to her dog house :006:
Any ideas would be great.

Shade, try to put her on the west side so hopefully that is less time in the direct heat.
Lots of water.

She has a small porch that doesn't get sunlight after 11am or so, but there is no airflow around on the porch, especially on the floor. I might mount a AC unit, since I got a good deal come my way.
Buy a small swimming pool for like 20 bucks at Walmart. Trust me he will get in when hes hot.

I would but there is no room in the shade for a small pool. 100+ degree water doesn't sound good

i was thinking about this last night. i wonder how hard it would be to build a fan with a solar panel on it and mount it through the dog house top.

So you don't want to use water or electricity, porch with no airflow, no room for a kiddie pool and can't or won't put in a crate inside due to room mate.
As harsh as it sounds I suggest 1 of 3 things; BUILD SHADE, it isn't that hard to build something that casts a shadow or you need to either find a new roommate or find a new home for the dog.
btw the way what kind of dog?

Hmm let me guess. His screen name is Big_tiger so he must be black or Mexican. Then the dog should be a pittbull.

I recommend not leaving the dog outside at all. They will learn to love their crate anyway. My 4 dogs stay in the laundry room while we are at work.

Go to harbor freight and buy one of the solar panels and then buy computer fans mount the solar panel on the dog house or nearby in the sun to run the fans. It will help immensely but even 100 degree water will make the dog feel good.

If you cared enough about the dog, you would buy a kennel to keep it in the house during the day and tell your roommate to fuck off if he doesn't like it. I'm sure he wouldn't want to spend all day in the blistering heat. The dog shouldn't have to either.

I never said anything about not using water or electricity. I didn't want to use both at the same time.
The yard is a great size, just no trees. I have posted pics of my backyard before.
I'll say it again I have a porch that has shade after 11am, just no room for a five foot around kiddie pool.
I think I will put a window unit on her dog house. LOL I will have to make it so the vents off of the AC unit can turn into piping (without leaking a ton of air).
Plus this way is more fun.

Why can't you just keep your dog in your room while your gone? Makes more sense to me. It's your room, fuck your roomate!

I have a 12x12 shed with a dog door and add A/C in it. The dogs love it, I did use a lot of insulation to keep the cool in.

#1 fuck your room mate.
#2 get a misting fan and set up some kind of shade for the dog.
If you're worried about water/electricity, note that misting fans have ground fault circuit interrupt plugs already on them - at the first hint of a water/electrical short, it blows the fuse before anything can get shocked.
I've used misters for years and they work like a champ for dogs in the summertime.

The Dog is your priority, not the roommate. If the reverse is true, you need to find a new home for that dog. A roommate can fend for himself, the dog cannot.
Oh, and x2 on the misting fan. I'm looking to get one of those for myself.

Get a power drill and drill holes in the dog for better ventilation.
Problem fixed.

Its way way too hot for any dog to be outside. Thats just cruel. You need to leave that dog inside in a crate. It will get used to it and quit barking after a while. Thats way more humane than leaving a dog outside. WTF kind of roomate doesnt want a dog around keeping them company. Is the dog Cujo?

Yea till you come into the living room and one of your 100lb dog somehow managed to pull a 7 foot long treelimb in and chew on it.

I have two large pecan trees in my back yard and the night before a pretty good storm blew through which knocked some limbs out.

This is just a sad thread. Indoor kennels work so well there shouldn't be a need to gerry-rig some redneck contraption to keep your dog cool. Good luck with it though.
