So i managed to somehow mess up my harddrive and is now unusable, is there any software available to completely restore it to factory defaults? Its a 500 gig external btw

You could simply reformat it if you didn't care about retaining the data on it. Or you could use any number of freeware file recovery software tools to salvage the data.
That's why it's important to make regular image backups using a program like Nortons Ghost or PQDI.
Worst comes to worse, you have a warranty. Mine does.

Had the same harddrive take a complete shit on me last year, got a new one from Seagate and it took a shit as well. Took a lot of crap I would really like to still have with it. I know a lot of people that swear by SeaGate's drives, but I won't buy another one.

I'm pretty certain this hard drive's firmware was junk. You need to update the firm ware. then it should be good. You dont want to restore it to factory.
