Last time I tried to get back into running I wasn't in the best shape (endurance wise) I didn't really have a good cardio base, so I got frustrated very quickly and quit. Right about that time I also had my knee surgery :(
This time I think I've got it :D
Thanks to the cycling I have a decent cardio base to build on now. I got in 115 miles pedaling last week (45 mile long ride)
I got news this morning that our company will be sponsoring part of the Houston Marathon in January and will pay any employee's associated fees... and every now and then (ie. today) I cave in to peer pressure.
I'm going to sign up for the half.
To help ease my knee back into it I am starting from scratch on the running with the basic "couch to 5k" plan, and I have basically planned all 32 weeks from now until the run January 17, 2010. Building base miles for most of the rest of the year then toward the end of the year stretch it out into a typical half-mary training plan.
So anyway, like I was saying, in 222 days you guys can feel free to come back in here and laugh at me for failing
The first run (1 of 125, lol) tonight was cake.

I have some other goals, but I'm not ready to post those yet. Maybe after I hit them :)

man i havent ran in over a year and the other day i was trying to ease myself back into it and i ran 1.5 miles like it was nothing. i think its because i was stationed in new mexico when i used to run a lot and since the elevation is higher it makes it harder to run there and way easier here. at least thats one good thing i took away from that shithole town/ base that i was stationed at.
i am actually going to start swimming instead of running. no impact plus more muscles involved.

1/2 mile?
I hate running, but am forcing myself to do it. I think I'd do better if I wasn't on a tread mill.

Are you making progress on the couch-to-5k plan? I've been looking for some sort of cardio to ease into because my dad has smoked around me my entire life. I can't breathe for shit and nearly pass out just running a mile. That plan looks just about perfect.

Nothin' to it.
It seems everytime I go out it sucks at first, but I have finally learned to find "the zone" while running like I do on the bike. I finish each workout wanting to do a bit more than planned, but I'm making myself follow the whole 32 week plan exactly to avoid re-injuring my knee.

The half and full usually fill up in 5-6 weeks.
This year the half filled up in 24 hours and the full was, well, full... in 2.5 days.
We should probably think about hotel reservations. Soon.

Good luck man, just take it slow and build the miles slowly. I had a hell of a time building up to a half when I did, I defiantly rushed it, but you have tons of time to get it done.

Massive achillies tightness.
Other that stretching the shit out of it, anyone have some advice?

Roll your feet over a tennis ball, slowly adding more pressure. Loosening up your feet should help relieve some of the tension.
