Not a huge hardware upgrade, but the new software and hardware will be out in a little over a week... Can't wait for 3.0 software!

Hardware:
Better battery life
7.2Mbps network support
Upgraded Camera with 30fps video
Full MMS including video
Voice dialing and ipod control

3.0 OS will be released June 17 - Free for all iphones

Current 3G 8gig - $99
New 3GS 16gig - $199

Apparently you can pre-order today starting at 4pm and it will be at your home/office on the 19th. I'm going to test that out.

just got an 8 gig 3g . is there a rebate type thing for customers that want to upgrade to the 3g s?

no special deals for upgrading from your 3g unless your upgrade eligible by the time the 3gs comes out.. even then your still at the 199$ for 16gb or 299$ for 32gb prices..

sticking with my 16g 3g.. fast enough for me already and can do video with jailbreak.. ill wait till next year when there is more of a hardware change hopefully..

I BELIEVE (and I could be very wrong) you can upgrade a older model iphone to a newer model at any time. Dunno about pricing but I thought that is how it was but if you want to upgrade to another brand phone you have to wait till your 18 month deal is up.

If I already had a 3g I might wait... but I'll be upgrading my 2g phone with the 3GS. With 32gigs it has enough storage that I'll probably dump my old ipod...

I hope AT&T get the MMS service up and running quickly and actually releases a tethering plan. I've heard different costs/data limits for tethering and that is one thing that I really am looking forward to.

I read that if you are upgrading your phone the prices are $499 16g and $599 32g. The $199 and $299 are for "NEW" customers only not upgrades. So I might wait till next year and just be happy with 3.0.

New as in your new to AT&T if you got it at the sell price LMK so i can order mine as well. And i'm talking about the 3gs no the regular 3g

I am a re-newing customer over 10 years. I just went to the att store yesterday, my 2 years was up on the 9th(today), and I got it pre-ordred for $32*.00(??) after tax. They said they are opening the store early on the 19th at 7am for pre-orders.

Yes but i'm talking about which phone did you pre-order? The regular 3g or the new one which is the 3gs?? Because you may have reserved your phone but the special price is only for new at&t customers. Not i've been with them for x years and gonna renew customers. Like people moving from spring, tmoble, or w/e to at&t will get the special pricing on the new 3gs phone. But if it is a regular 3g phone then renew or new customer will get that price. Which is why i ask which did you pre order?

I reserved the 32gb 3GS black for $320.00 after tax (give or take). On June 19th at 7AM I can pick up my new 32gb 3GS Black I-phone. At 9AM the store opens for regular customers.

As did my mother/father in a different att store.

Great that is what i was looking for lol. Because i've been reading that if you are already a customer looking to upgrade then you will not get the special sell price. So i really need to look into that today. Thanks.

Those prices are the price with a 2 year contract, you just need to be eligible for an upgrade on an existing plan. The 3GS will be the same as the 3G phone, you can only buy the phone with a contract.

I read that you couldn't even if you had an eligible upgrade. But then again i still have a year left so it might not work for early upgrade things.

ATT says they will be ready for it in late summer. Apparently they have no way of automatically enabling MMS on everyone's account. It has to be done manually.

They are also not ready for tethering.

I guarantee you that Steve Jobs is mightily pissed. I wouldn't be surprised if ATT loses iPhone exclusivity in 2010 when the current contract expires.

YUP! I agree 100%

I also heard a rumor Apple may unleash a new iphone but named something else to get around the ATT contract and sell under Verizons plan. Just a rumor I heard though.

So my question is, how will they know if someone is just using PDANET instead of 3.0 tethering? Right now they don't appear to know the difference.

That $70 charge is going to be the biggest reason the iphone dev team (jailbreak team) stays alive.

They will come out with a NEW one with a flash for the camera around X-Mas time. That is what I heard but don't know how true it is.

The late summer update is for mms and tethering. It really isn't an update just them releasing MMS. The 3.0 update is for everyone which comes out the 17.

Just an FYI...

If you received your Iphone 3g between 5/8/09 and 6/8/09 you are eligible to trade it in for a 3GS. You must pre order and return it to the store you originally purchased from.

Catch is you will have to pay the full amount of the phone up front, then they will re-imburse you turn in your 3G
