Engine detail via degreaser/hose

I am going to try to start cleaning the engine bay by degreaser/hose. I have only cleaned it with APC, rags and brushes.

What are the sensitive parts that I will want to cover (4.6 2v)?

I used to til I hit something the wrong way. My battery light flickers on and off randomly. I think a diode on the alternator is on its way out now.

@OP: Alternator, battery, MAF, plug wells, injectors.

Well fuck.... I sprayed down the whole fucking thing after covering the alternator.... lets hope it starts.

Most of the engines I clean up are standard engines with the dark/black parts/covers. I usually wet it all down with low pressure water. Then I soak it all in Simple Green and wipe it all down with just my hand. Then I'll keep spraying on some more Simple Green for another pass or two....wipe it down some more....rinse with low pressure water again. Not like a drizzle, just fairly low pressure.

After that I start 'em up to make sure there is no issues. Then I'll let it run until the engine is dry and repeat the above process for any specific areas that may need more attention. Usually comes out looking pretty slick.

Don't think it would be that simple for chromed out engine bays though, but for a standard bay it should work fine. Heck, I once had a chrome CAI and it worked okay on that too.

After a nice clean and dry with Foamy brite (avalible at your local Vato zone).. just mist it down with WD-40 and it will shine better than new.

Nick, you don't need to cover anything IMO. But I would spray out the injector and spark plug seats with your air compressor after I was done.

Are you asking me or telling me? I'm staying out of this thread. Engine cleaning is a touchy subject, I have my own method and don't give any advice on. Too many things can go wrong.....like telling people they don't need to cover anything/\ /\ /\ Remember, not everyone has a new engine like yours, and older engines can't get wet like the newer ones ;)

Understanding that I clean an engine bay at my own risk, can you tell -me- what products you use?

I only use simple green but am watching this thread to learn about products. On the Meg forums it seems a lot of folks use the Megs APC stuff. However, if there is a simpler/just as simple but more effective way I'm game for that.

If you feel more comfy PM'ing it....please do so. Again, I'm not going to show up at your front door packing or anything - if I f 'up a car for screwing up an engine detail. Just curious as to what products are used.
