looking for a GPS for the wife. The thing that i hate about GPS systems are that they dont always calculate the most ideal route. Are there any GPS out there that let me plug in/program the specific route i want it to take my wife to a destination? Kinda how google maps lets u pick the streets/hwy you want to take and it will calculate time/miles. I was looking at the Garmin Nuvi 760 but it doesnt really say if i can program my own route.

i bought a $120 dollar garmin 250 model at best buy the other day. so far it's been a great little gps and has kept me on track

We got a cheapo Garmin at Best Buy when that $50 off coupon was around. You can tell it to select Hiways, shortest route (mileage wise) or quickest route (time wise). of course they all recalculate the route if you take a different turn or miss a turn.

Not for me, for the wife. She can get lost a block away from our house,LOL. I just want to be able to program places/specific routes for her so it doesnt ever take her thru shady parts of town.

Check out gpsreview.net. The feature I believe you are looking for is multi-destinational routing. You can't pick 'bad' areas and expect it to avoid them unless you consider toll ways or free ways bad, but you can plan a route with as much control as you want. I've had the Nuvi 750 for a year or two and I love it. Here is a search from the site I mentioned that have some of the features I consider important.

Not always the case at all. A lot of GPS units get traffic so if I'm just going to my office to home or vice versa I fire it up just to make sure I don't get totally screwed in traffic. Mine does not have it, but if it did I'd also fire it up just for gas on the way to ensure I get the cheap stuff.

Edit: To OP, I have a Garmin 770 and think it does pretty good on routing. I'd say around 80% of the time it is ideal routing, and sometimes it is off but when I check it out there is traffic. It seems that 99% of the time when I defy her (named mine Karen) I end up fucking myself.
