Time Warner Cable Box uses HDMI? HDMI vs. Component?

Just wondering if anyone can confirm that the Time Warner Cable Boxes can utilize HDMI cables. Got my first 1080P TV and also my first TV that can use HDMI cables and wondering if my cable box will support it. It's the standard TW Digital Cable Box and it's got an HDMI plug in the back but I'm sure there are somethings back there that are not functional (like the USB plug). Anyone? Grant?

Also, how is the quality compared between HDMI and Component Cables? Which gives the better resolution?

yep, I use one on mine. All their boxes only do 1080i though for reference. I don't think you'll see much of a different between component and HDMI, I know I really didn't. I don't think the USB is utilized to my knowledge.

My TW box has HDMI and Optical connections. I have the dual tuner DVR. Only problem is that mine wont work with my TV without the front of the STB being covered in post it notes. For some reason my TV emits a signal that interferes with the STB when the TV is on.

Yes, there is HDMI capability.

Resolution is a moot point, just use it because it's easier.

The USB isn't officially functional.

Yep, I've been through ~5 STB's, 4 techs, and 1 manager, and nobody was able to figure it out. I thought I updated my thread. It doesn't look like I did. I was pretty much told to deal with the problem or use a different provider. Since TW is the only cable provider at this complex, and I don't have a line of sight for Satellite, I'm pretty much screwed.

Please PM me the managers name and your tv type as well as the dvr serial number (it will start with with a M if you have a dual tuner). If not, it will start with a GI.

it's the TVs fault, not the cable box. there are several LCD TVs that cause this problem apparently. some people have had success turning off/on the auto-sensing brightness feature on their tvs. some people have turned down their backlight, changed the contrast, etc and have had some luck fixing it.

I know it's the TV, and not the STB. I have the auto sensing brigness off, and got tired of messing with the picture settings. Sometimes it will work without the post it notes, but it's hit and miss. I actually prefer to just leave them on so I won't have to keep messing with it.

Interesting read. I have a Sammy LCD were the HDMI sometimes won't work with my Fios box. The box basically shuts down and won't send a signal to the TV. I was told that this was pretty common with Fios and Sammy LCD's. I basically just use component cables so that I don't have to keep rebooting the fios box. Kinda sucks considering what I paid for the TV.

I have a 32" Sammy when i was using FIOS. No problems at all with the HDMI.
