Cheap HDMI Cables

Not sure how good the quality of them can be but for the price I'm willing to give it a try (especially since there my first HDMI cable's). Thoughts?

I've bought the HQ monoprice.com HDMI cables, and I believe these are the same brand. I have 40 ft of it from my projector to my receiver, and it's worked perfectly for 1080P. I do not transfer audio through them so I can't attest to that.

I bought mine from amazon. about the same price and they work fantasticly. this one area I will scimp on.

If you buy the cheap cables and dont like them its better than buying the expensive ones and finding they don't work any better.

FWIW, there's no difference in the cheapies and the expensive ones untill you get to the longer distances.

agreed, and I'm at 40 ft and it's still not a long enough distance to make any noticeable difference.

I think the source and display can play a role too in how far you can run HDMI. Normally, 25-30ft is about it before you see sparklies in the display.

I am running a pair of the Monoprice 75ft HDMI's with built in repeaters on my plasma. The sources are Uverse DVR and PS3 (for Bluray) going to my 65" Panny plasma. Looks great. No issues yet.

for digital it doesn't make a difference... either all the data gets through or it doesn't. With analog it can make a difference, especially low level connections.

I dunno about that - I have read several accounts where users are running HDMI lengths over the 20-25ft "safe limitation" and report white sparklies in the picture. Not sure what these artifacts actually are but they seem to be associated with longer HDMI cable runs and/or cheap HDMI cables.

Do a search on the AVS forums using " HDMI sparklies". I got 404 hits

I'm running a 40ft HDMI and I certainly dont have sparklies, and I regularly move the cable all over the house, so I'd say it's had extremely frequent wear and use.

You know, I was surprised when I read that. I think in a case like that the source or display plays some role in the successful transport of an HDMI signal.

When I decided to relocate all my components to a media closet I researched the issues surrounding long HDMI runs. In my reading I found many people had issues with anything much over 25 ft.

My run is almost three times that and I was hesitant to use the Monoprice repeater cables. I considered the baluns type send/receiver soultions that transport HDMI via two CAT5's. They are more costly and I finally decided the Monoprice units were worth a shot since I could return them if they didnt work well with my equipment.

HDMI cables make for an interesting debate. Some people think spending $60 for a HDMI cable is where it's at. However, I've got $6 HDMI cables for my equipment and they work fantastic. Excellent picture and passes 1080p & HD audio.

Man some intersting info, I went and bought a few at Fry's and one of the ties came over and assisited me, we actually had a very good convo about HDMI cables and he basically said the same thing, it really doesn't matter with the digital signal, if you are getting some type of interference it may be the quality of the HDMI cable.

I'm using 2 of the HDMI cables that I got from Verizon when I had FIOS. :)
I see NO problems with my pictures at all.

To answer Jose's original question about 6ft cables, you could probably buy the cheapest thing on the shelf at Walmart and be ok.

For anyone else who is considering a 50ft or more HDMI run I would advise you to do your own due dilgence. There is some middle ground and I refuse to believe all the guys at AVS forums are dreaming when they describe the white sparkle artifacting they see when running longer HDMI cable runs.

well sweet. im buying the 6 foot one for 3.22 thats a damn good deal. wal-mart wanted 28 bucks... damn good deal. is it worth it??
