Guy behind the counter at the my local Suzuki dealership told me not to run car oil in my bike. He said car oil doesn't have the right additives for the gears and the clutch, etc. I've always ran mobil 1 syn. in all my bikes and never had a problem. Is there any truth to not running car oil in your bike, I know most do but can any one shed some light on this with facts? plus full syn. motorcycle oil was like $14 a quart there so fuck that

yes there are additives, some include keeping the foaming to a minimum.
one thing to think about is that a cars motor oil and tranny fluid are in seperate locations, while a bike uses the same oil for both the engine and tranny.
i have heard of people running car oil, but i dont personally do it.

Car oil has friction modifiers in it to help reduce wear. It can make the clutch plates slip and reduce their lifespan.

You can run must car oils in your motorcycle as long as it doesn't say EC (Energy Conservation) on the bottle. I personally use Shell Rotella T, it's made for diesel trucks but a lot of people run it in bikes. I think it's something like $15-$20 for a gallon at WalMart.
