I do when I can. Technique is everything really. I've done it with an 18" barrel tactical shotgun (no choke) and with a great big goose gun (fully adjustable choke). Practice as much as you can. Sights don't really matter, you just sight down the barrel, I've never used anything other than a simple bead front.
I'd be happy to meet up at Alpine some weekend, I've got plenty of #8 shot. :)

I havent been in awhile, but I like to shoot Skeet and Trap occasionally. I picked up a Briley diffusion choke that works pretty well. Its a good choke for us amateur clay shooters. :D

Just use both eyes open, a skeet or cylinder choke, and whatever gauge you feel comfy with.

The best way to practice is to shoot about 5 clays at each station from each tower to really get a feel for how much you need to lead the clay. Practice is the only thing that will make you better!

ditto... From years of dove hunting, you don't really aim, you point and learning the amount to lead the target is all feel. The biggest mistake people make is they will be turning on the target but will stop right when they pull the trigger. Keep turning on the target as you fire. I've shot a lot of skeet and trap with an O/U 28ga that had a modified and improved choke, and never had an issue. Practice will make more of a difference than the equipment.

Been a few years since I've done it, but you don't need anything fancy...just practice.

I usually just used a simple 20 ga Remington pump or a Ruger over/under.

What kind of clays are you talking about there is a differance between trap, skeet and sprting clays itsself. Trap useually gets a tighter choke like full or improved modified, skeet gets a skeet or improved cylinder choke and sporting clays varies on the target distance speed and type.

Just use both eyes open

This is a big one in my opinion. The first time I shot clays I had one eye closed. When I tried with both eyes open my success rate was much greater.

Did someone say Alpine? :006:

That I did. :D Amazing how such a simple piece of advice can work. Depth perception FTW!

I shoot alot of skeet but will occasionally shoot 5 stand and sporting clays. When I shoot skeet I use a skeet choke and with 5 stand and sporting clays I use a modified. There were some good points in previous posts and I will also add to place your feet where you want to shoot. Also, don't get discouraged as the average bird hunter who shoots skeet breaks 13 out of 25. Like anything else you will improve with practice.

Very good point on feet placement another thing that will help shooting clays is glasses the right kind will help you pick up the bird alot faster. Also when you get into shooting clays real heavy the gun can also make a big differance.
