How is this done legally? Do you still have to wait to actually get the gun?
Ive seen a few deals on some guns, and would like to pick one up. Just really unsure on how to go about this. Is there a website that explains everything about buying from an individual?
Thanks,
Nick

Personally, I like to make sure I have a bill of sale made with both partys' DL and/or CHLs on it with signnatures. Face to face doesn't require a wait time, but if you knowingly sell to a falon, underage, or anyone that isn't legally allowed to have the weapon, you will be in trouble... BIG trouble, mister!

1. Meet individual
2. Look at item
3. Agree to buy/not buy.
4. Trade item for something of value
5. Walk away
Unless you call someone that can run a firearm you'll never know about it.

A bill of sale is all thats needed? I wouldn't have to register it or anything?

You dont even need a billl of sale.
Just buy it and leave it at that.

Okay, fair enough. But what if the cops come into my house for something and find the gun. Would I get into any kind of trouble for not having it registered or anything? What if I actually have to use it to protect the house, would I get into trouble for not having it registered?
Sorry for all the stupid questions. I'm a total gun newbie, and I'd rather do it the right way. Don't want anything coming back to bite me in the ass for having a gun illegally.

Theres no registration of firearms in Texas or Federally unless it's a machine gun, short barreled rifle/shotgun, destructive device, silencer, etc.
Use the gun as you wish.

Poor Jimmy will never own a gun... :(
Is there any liability if you sell a gun to someone that then commits a crime with it? Say, for instance you don't get a bill of sale on a cash transaction, and then the gun is found at a murder scene.

Someone could get mad, but if you have a verifiable alibi I doubt there's much anyone could do.
With the way private sales are in Texas, there's no proof positive way to cover any and all bases. Even if you;re a dealer and a gun you sell comes to a murder scene, you're pretty confident that there will be questioning involved.

Oh shit, hell yeah!
I just want something decent, but effective if I am ever forced to use it. I don't want to just piss someone off if they are ever on the receiving end, if you know what I mean. I don't need anything fancy, just dependable and effective.
Fender Mender coming after you? :D
What is your budget? Pistols range from $200 to $1500 or more.. New or used?

I can hook you up with something. I get home on the 21st and we'll go from there. I think the best set-up for you would be my .380 (which is in Vegas at the moment, but I've also got my Glock that you can use until I run up there (which might need your assistance as well).

I wouldn't put it past them at this point. Just having back surgery, there's no way I could hold a fair fight. Not to mention the consequences of injuring my back again. Then there's the matter of being on drugs still. I'd rather have some security for my home.
Guess my price range would fall into the $500 and less area. But being so new to all of this, I'm not sure what a quality piece would cost me.

Just keep my Glock until I get you the .380 to keep. Save up a little off the side and we'll go gun shopping together. Who knows, you just might like the crap out of it. It's the perfect conceal and carry size.

$500 ish will buy you a nice Springfield XD or Glock. Im a XD fan myself. If you are not going to carry the gun daily and it is for the house, you are better off getting a full size with large capacity magazines. Id personally go with a .45 ACP (not Glocks bs GAP). XD's have a 13rd magazine. The 45 is a good sized round and has some stopping power. Some people are going to say 9mm due to the velocity so you can shoot through walls better, I dont plan on blindly shooting through walls, so that is your call. A .40 is a nice in between round. Has some velocity but bigger than the 9mm.
Budsgunshop has some good deals on XD's right now
.45 ACP 4" barrel

.40 5" barrel

Wade and I both picked up some XD45's from Buds and it went great. You have to get it shipped to an FFL and it will cost you $15 to get it registered in your name through the FFL. There is a nice guy in Bedford (157 and MidCities) that I can get his name/number. He is an FFL and you can pick up the gun from him.

I agree for the most part but... if you cant hit someone with 7-10 rounds.... you should probably own a shotgun
