Somehow I've managed the lose the one that came with my Kimber. Would rather buy locally and pay tax than buy mail order and probably pay more for shipping. Post up if you have some ideas of where I can go.

Just use your fingers! My Colt never came with one, and yeah its a pain in the ass, especially when you slip and the Spring Plug tags you in the face.
If you cant find one locally try CDNN. They have everything.

I have 2 layin around, they arent the Kimber brand ones but they will work just the same. They are yours for lunch.

For some of the full length guide rods, they're a necessity. Shit, mine has to have a 3/16" allen, and bushing wrench, but it's worth it.

The wrenches are especially useful with match bushings or after you shoot a shit ton and have a bunch of carbon goo between the slide and the bushing.

I probably have one at home also if you still need it... I bought one of these (http://www.caspianarms.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CAL&Product_Code=M1911-3&Category_Code=OA)for the range bag. Handy little tool...

I've been doing that (with the help of one of my magazines) and I can do it but like you said, it's a PITA. That's what the wrench is for.

I wouldn't have the faintest clue of what a tampon holder looks like but thanks for the imagery

I might take you up on the offer although lunch will probably cost more than the wrench LOL! There like $4 or $5 online :) That's why I was thinking it may not be worth shipping as I'm sure that'll be $3 or $4 on a single item. I'd rather buy locally and just pay tax.
Guess this will give me a chance to hit up a couple of local gun shops :)

My Kimber spring is twice as hard to push down than my Colt.

Dude you can have them, PM me your number again. I dont have a gun to use them on anymore and dont see myself buying one in the future. One of them is semi broke and the other was only used 2 times.

Thanks everybody, I found my wrench the other night. I can certainly do it by hand or with the help of a magazine but it's a PITA. Much easier with the wrench :)

I did my kimber by hand once and I have a nice little impression of the bushing in my roof from it. Its a real PITA without it.

After taming his 1911 I'd have to agree with this.
