The manager that works that dept. probably goes off duty then. It's probably a Wal-Mart thing, not a state thing. I imagine they keep a close eye on that stuff in this day and age.

I went in a couple weeks ago and I was told the cutoff time was 10pm.

Yeah, it's no different than them shutting down the pharmacy, customer service, or optical center. There's no law against it, they can't be "open" without the appropriate employee(s).

I cruse the local Wal-Marts late at night and buy the ammo when it gets dropped off in the sporting goods dept by the night stockers. I have bought cases of stuff @ 2am before.

I've had two different department managers at separate stores tell me the same thing because no one is in the department after than. Never been there late at night when there stocking the ammo so I can't say they won't sell it to you but it makes sense that if it's open and you can pick up some boxes at 2am they "won't" sell it to you once you reach the register.
Which reminds me, I've had them tell me on a couple of occasions that I had to pay for the ammo in sporting goods department and I couldn't take it up front. Any truth to that?

Ask for a walkup to the register. That's their policy, they're just choosing to be lazy.

When I was at the Walmart in Denton I picked up some ammo from sporting goods and they guy working let me take it with me without ringing me up. Are they supposed to do that, I don't know..but they did.

Was in there yesterday and they have now instituted a two box per day policy. Didn't help as the shelves were still bare...

I pisses me off about their 10 pm rule. most times I go to the cooper store and they say that the person with the key will not be back till 8am. I have showed up at like 10:05 trying to get a power cable for an amp hook up, no luck.
