Im looking to replace my factory blued barrel bushing with a stainless one. Im wanting to keep the end cap and barrel blued, and just get the Stainless bushing. I want a half stainless, half blued look. Anyways, this is what Im working with. I have what is known as a "collet bushing" Which is why its split. The only ones I have seen are a full bushing, no splits. These are apparently in the older 1911s. Do I have to make any modifications to use a normal bushing in mine? Is there anything I need to look for? Thanks

May take some light sanding/fitting. Is that a Colt?

A cheap way to do fine sanding/polishing is a paper grocery bag, it works real well for polishig ramps.

What am I sanding down? The ID of the new bushing? or the OD? thats what Im wondering. What is different about this Collet and a newer one as far as size and fitment?

Its just a different type most bushing will take a lil fitting on both the od and id unless you get lucky and it fits good.

Can you use a micrometer on the OD of the bushing?

You could mic both if you have the right micrometer.

What about something that takes the bluing off, and getting it down to the stainless metal? Is that possible?

Steel wool and a blueing and rust remover.

oh certainly... if it's stainless, you can do it easily.

Steel wool and a blueing and rust remover.

no need to use a bluing or rust remover to get it off, bluing is very easy to remove. Drop it in some vinegar for an a couple hours and the bluing will be gone.

You can order it through CDNN Investments or Brownell's...
