I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this yet since it's been up on drudge all morning long. The crux of it is that the government considers people that own guns and have esentially conservative views on how things should be run as right wing extremists that need watching.
Federal agency warns of radicals on right
9-page report sent to police
The Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in "rightwing extremist activity," saying the economic recession, the election of America's first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias.
A footnote attached to the report by the Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines "rightwing extremism in the United States" as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority.
"It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single-issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration," the warning says.
Also, in a related news item rick perry has signed texas on as one of the states that are reserving states rights from the federal government, so I guess he's on the watch list now as someone "that rejects federal authority in favor of state of local authority". Looks like the states that have come out asserting their constitutional rights to a limited federal government are on a collision course with the federal government.

It's about time that Perry did something worthwhile. Kudos to him for that!

According to that thing that was published about DHS being on alert for "Extremists", apparently i am considered an extremist because of my disapproval of my gun rights getting stripped away, as well as my stance on illegal immigration. That fucking article makes it seem like anyone right of the middle is an "extremist". They mention Timothy McVeigh, and yeah, he may very well have been way out in right field, but they seem to be putting the rest of us in the same category.
Interesting how they're scared... They're trying to avoid the same thing that created this country in the first place.

You know... as of June 1, I will be in transit to another country with my father to look at an alternative place called home, (for the sake of my children). This Rick Perry guy that you speak of just might spark enough interest in me to stick around. But... just because he's against what I'm against, doesn't mean that we're both "for" the same thing. I'll be watching this issue closely.

When you compromise with an extremist you lose. Obama and most of congress are what I'd consider as being extremely liberal and our representative "conservatives" are moderates. Meaning they'll compromise and lose ground while doing so.
Today is the anniversary of the Lincoln assasination (he actually died the following day but he was shot on April 14th) and Sunday is the anniversary of both the Waco seige and the OKC bombing. If something is going to happen it'll be very soon.

Kinda makes you wonder if conservatives could counter that thing to be on the lookout for left wing extremists who are trying to strip Americans of their rights. Think that would stick?

Why bother? Just turn on CNN, C-Span or CBS news.

Golf Clap for Rick Perry for what he has done when it has come to this. It has been 85 days, and I am already tired of all the crap thrown at Convservatives. Oh well lets all sing "We Shall Overcome, and march the streets." Wait that might be a bad idea, they might think we are a Militia, and say we are trying to over throw the government.

you guys read to much into this, during recessions you typically see a rise in extremist activity on the left and on the right. this is because extremists tens to be people of little means, so they get hit the worst in a recession. on the right you have muslim extremists, christian extremists, KKK, stuff like that. on the left you have environmental extremists, war hawks, and political extremists.

on the political spectrum, religions and freedoms all fall on the right side, as does any strong social conservative agenda.
the left side of the spectrum there is less religion of any kind, stronger government control.
