I see I'm not going to change your mind. I AM an electrical engineer and I understand power supply and amplifier design and the associated tradeoffs. Why not put fancy air purifiers in your listening room to keep the percentages of nitrogen, oxygen, etc. constant? Once the speaker cone moves the sound is produced via an acoustic pressure wave. Why not keep the medium of propagation as constant as possible so that the sound isn't disturbed? If your buddy next to you is smoking a cigar the smoke particles emitted into the air (again, medium of sound propagation from speakers to your ears) will affect how the sound is heard! Don't forget the humidifier to keep that variable constant as well!

Again, why do you believe that the 1-3' of fancy cable you buy from AC socket to your amplifier will induce any perceivable change when it's fighting MILES of the power company's wiring? Do you think that the power company was founded by audiophiles who put optimum power distribution cable onto the grid, and you're going to destroy that delicate balance?

Well put.

Lol! Resistance and heat CAN come into play over long stretched if the cord is too thin but yes, you have a very good point. Who the hell spends a ton of money on an electricity cord? LOL!

Now I can see how a $500 power conditioner could be beneficial though.

So smoking is bad for your ears too!

yea, i've never understood the fancy power cable argument myself.
i support better speaker cables, better interconnects, balanced xlr connectors, maybe even bi-wire and tri-wire. hell i'll even say yes, separating power cables from source cables so they don't touch is good... but power cables?

why doesn't just run anyone stock power cable vs audioquest power cable in an a - b test and analyze with a spectrograph? that should prove any difference right there.

I would totally do it but I left my spectrograph at my friends house the other night.

None of the guys who really buy into the voodoo understand words like 'spectra' and even 'measurement' ;)

I've never really been a fan of big power cords. Now I am a big fan of Power centers. I've hooked up many systems with an without them and they do make a big difference. However you need to have a big system that pulls a lot of amps to justify it. Like mine with a Sunfire amp and Martin Logan speakers. Plug that up with my $800 5100ss and it's great, hook it up with my $100 Panamax and it sounds muffled a little. Now I don't have a really high end system but probably better than 99% of people with home theaters.

^^^
If you have a sunfire amp pushing martin logan speakers I would consider that high end lol

i was looking at building power cables for the sake of size and ran across it.
