There are some great online forums that can help guide you through the repairs yourself. I was able to diagnose and repair my 61" Samsung DLP by just doing a couple google searches.
The biggest take-away from all my research was that the vast majority of the time, it's the bulb (I'm assuiming your 61" is a DLP). I bought just the bulb and replaced it for $125 shipped. Took me 5 minutes.
There's even video tutorials on YouTube. Check em out.

If it's just a bad lamp, then that is an easy fix.
Took me 5 minutes to replace the lamp in my DLP TV.
Purchase the correct lamp and the instructions will be in your manual. If not, call the support number listed in your manual.
FYI: I got my replacement lamp at nearly half the retail price through eBay. Brand new OEM lamp.
