Help! My Pentium 4 won't start...

Here's what went down. It just turned off yesterday. It wouldn't turn back on. I took the case off and it was dust bunny heaven. Cleaned all the dust out, plugged it back in, now one of the fans comes on, but it still won't power back up. I am not a techie by any means, so I have no idea where to go from here. Any help is appreciated. I don't have money to get it repaired since I got laid off in Feb. I borrowed my mom's even older dinosaur computer for now. Did the fan come on when you tried turning it on after cleaning it?

The part that the power plug goes into, does its fan come on when you turn it on? Or is it a fan on the board itself?

I'd guess power supply or it overheated. Pentium 4s were bad on getting hot and then you get a case full of dust bunnies probably didn't help anything.

Might get lucky and its just the power supply and it didn't take any other parts down with it.

yes, only the fan comes on now. It's not the one on the motor itself.:confused2:

I hate to say it, but I had 3 Socket 478 P4 systems take a shit on me exactly like you described, working one minute, mobo dead the next. The heat kills them.

So there can be 3 or more fans in a case. How the hell does anyone know what "the fan" is? No one has answered or clarified any questions in reference to the damned fan.
