Uploading DVD to Computer, Help!

I need to upload a video from a disc to my computer.

The disc is one of those mini disc things and the footage was shot using an HD camera. When I insert the disc into my computer, nothing happens and reads it as blank.

Now, the disc works in my HD DVD player and Im assuming that since I dont have an HD DVD (just a regular DVD drive in my computer) the disc footage isnt being read.

So, how can I get this thing onto my computer?

I don't have an exact answer, but this would work:

Install a TV card into your computer
From the OUTPUT on your DVD player, plug that into the input on the TV Card.
Then you can capture and save to the computer whatever segment, or all if you wish
