My niece was just handed down a 5G 30GB iPod Video from my nephew and the headphone jack is screwed up and only plays sound out on one side. Battery also doesn't last very long. I promised her that I would fix it so I'm planning on replacing the audio jack as well as putting in a new battery. Might also replace the case as well depending on how bad it is and maybe just to customize it for her a bit.

Just curious if anyone has ever taken apart and repaired an iPod before. Looks pretty easy from the articles I've read and hopefully will be about an hour long job.

they sell kits to replace the battery on ebay. Don't know about the headphone jack though.

I've never done it but here's a how-to-video.

It's really, really easy. The kits to replace the battery will include everything you need to crack it open, or just use a razor blade and run it along the seam.

I replaced the battery in mine and Autumn's a few weeks back. The battery kit came with the tool for ~$30 total. I did mine first, and took about 15 minutes figuring out the best way to crack that fucker open. Once mine was done and I confirmed it still worked, I did Autumn's in less than 5 minutes.

We got our batteries from iPod Juice, super fast shipping too. I think we ordered on a Monday and they were in our mailbox that Wednesday.
