I just wanted to put a word in for Benchmade Knives. They just replaced the pocket clip on my old trusty "Ambush" for the 3rd time (I’m hard on them). They also sharpened it for free. Lifetime warranty and lifetime sharpening. Not a bad deal for the price. I bought mine as defensive knife but it has been much more traveling all over the mountains and deserts while backpacking, scraped a few gaskets, and removed a few screws to boot. They discontinued the Ambush model but I will buy another Benchmade if I ever lose this one.

Aluminum handles with steel backing plates. Light for it size I guess at 5.95 oz, but seems tough as nails. Has been used as a light duty hammer at times.

I'm assuming it has one of the spring blade locks on it? I need to get a decent pocket knife - want something that is slim and light.

I think it's a spring lock, not for sure. Benchmade calls it a "Rolling Lock"
ROLLING LOCK® WITH INDRAFT® Another patented Benchmade exclusive, the Rolling Lock utilizes a sizable, notched lock-pin, which secures against the blade tang when engaged. To disengage, a spring actuated thumb button on the right handle side is drawn back to rotate the lock pin and free the blade. InDraft is a patented exclusive, which is a combination of a slotted liner and a pin in the blade tang working in tandem to generate an inward inertia when closing the blade. These results in one of the safest blade detents available today.
They still make the mini ambush that's a bit smaller and lighter at 2.56 oz.

I have carried the same Benchmade afck (advanced folding combat knife) for 10 years.... if I ever replace it, it will be the exact same kind.
Perfect for daily needs and defense.
It looks just like this one:

Yea, but I'm wondering if it is a cheap ass Chinese "damascus" or good quality high worked steel.
I'd really like one of these, but don't feel like shucking out a gun price for a knife:

I really like benchmade but Im a bigger fan of Kershaw's. That damascus kershaw looks interesting, I may have to look into it. Ive carried a small kershaw spring assist for about 6 years and it has been a trusty little knife and kept an edge quite well.

Better buy one now (ebay?) as they have been discontinued by Benchmade for some time. Great knife by the way.

makes it easier to carry dead prostitutes. If I could just learn to remove my pocket knife from their torso I wouldn't be in this thread.

I've got that same knife, but it has a small safety to keep the blade from opening unintentionally.
I love that little knife. It's sharp as hell too..

I think i'm the only cheap bastard here that has a Gerber, huh?

When I was getting ready to be deployed to Desert Storm I bought a Gerber fighting knife from the base exchange.
When I came home from the war, a buddy of mine really liked it and wanted to trade me a Benchmade folding knife for it.
I still have the Benchmade in the box and have never used it. I have brought it up in conversation that I would like to trade back, but I haven't gotten it back yet.
It's not that I don't like the Benchmade, but I would like to have the Gerber that I took to war back so that someday I can give it to one of my boys.

Had a gerber ez-out for about ten years. The one with the half serratted blade love it, it is the one I carry the most. I also have a few Kershaw both good in my opinion.
I have an AFCK 1/2 serrated and have been to the factory in Oregon.:nana: I have had it over 10 years. Great knife. This is the one I have and it is listed at about $15 higher than it was new.
