Sounds like a fair trade to me as long as the AR is in operable condition...I honestly haven't seen an actual Colt AR go for less than $1K in a private sale in some time. The cheapest I've seen a new Colt AR go for lately is around $1400-$1600 without some kind of special discount (law enforcement, etc).

Personally, I would check the chamber with Go/No-Go headspace gauges to get an idea on how worn the BCG and chamber are. If you have never used Go/No-Go headspace gauges, I would get someone that has used them to help go over the weapon.

I agree with hooc - that's a pretty good deal if it's a real colt, and it isn't worn to shit, but if you're trading your bike for 1 gun, you better have someone experienced look over that gun since you're essentially giving away your bike for it.

If you are not familiar enough with the AR15 type of rifle to know when something is not right by looking at it, get someone that is experienced with them to look the gun over before making the trade. If the gun is not operational and is worn out, it isn't worth the $850 you are asking for the bike. For example, if you have to replace the barrel, you should also replace the bolt carrier group. If you want to replace with Colt parts, you are probably looking at $500 on the low end and that does not include installation if you were to have a gunsmith replace the parts. Yes, you could replace with aftermarket pieces, but that would hurt the end value of a Colt.

On the same token, if it is not operational, but everything checks out and only needs a small part or a good cleaning to make it operational, then I would still consider it a good deal.

I'm sure there are several members on here that would be willing to help you go over the weapon before finalizing the deal.
