just bought a house and need to get the roof repaired and was thinking about doing a metal roof and was wondering any pros or cons and price compared to shingles.

I heard you get a discount on your insurance. I also heard it is louder inside when it rains.

About 2 1/2 times the cost, if I remember correctly. It will help with insurance cost, but almost all companies have ruled out "cosmetic replacement". In other words, if a hail storm beats the piss out of it, you're stuck with that look. On the other hand, one of the higher quality (heavier guage) materials will prevent that all together. Of course the price goes up.

My dad has a metal roof in OK and he says when it rains and hail he hardly hears it.

Cool, good to know. Like I said, I just heard it, and probably just like an urban legend kinda thing, LOL!
If you can afford it and it matches the house then go for it. It will be the last roof that house will ever have.

I have metal roof it was worth every penney. I have watched hail hit the roof and have no dings dents etc. It's going to take very big hail to dent the roof. It has also reduced my electric bill it acts like a radiant barrier in a way. In 10 years the roof will pay for it self just in the insurance saving alone.

I priced a reroof a while back for a friend. To tear off, put 30 lb felt and elk 30 year year shingles it was $5500, To tear off, and replace with a metal roof where the screws are not exposed, the bid came in at 21,000. Needless to say he chose the $5500 roof.
Just curious how much the savings is annually on insurance ?
You guys have any recommendations for a new roof? I have had people bid at 13,ooo but I would prefer someone that is recommended.
