Very interesting... I've never seen one of these or really even heard about them.
Never heard of it but sounds neat. Have heard of the .460 Rowland conversion for 1911's though.

yeah it's pricey alright, but the gun and the maker are well known for being worth the money.
Their "GI50" round looks like some sort of .50 GAP round. Velocity is 700-850 - which is slightly slower/on par with a .45 ACP round, except you get more energy. Luckily they sell a 4 set of dies for relatively cheap, and they sell brass as well - so it's certainly something you could realistically use, but don't expect to find ammo anywhere away from your house.

They advertise quite a bit in the gun rags. Never heard of anyone owning one.
Nice looking, but there are a ton of custom 1911 manufs.
460 Rowland is stout, hell 45 Super is stout.

Looks pointless/useless imo. It offers nothing that isn't already out there. You want a 50 caliber handgun? Go with a .50 AE Desert Eagle or, better yet, Smith & Wesson 500. You want a super-hot round in a 1911? Go 10mm, .45 Super, or .460 Rowland. So would my .44 Remington Magnum (Ruger Redhawk)...:)Do you realize that a .44 bullet is .02" or more smaller in diameter than a .45?

Yeah, and more than twice the velocity, and 5 times the energy - a .44 mag makes a .45 ACP look like a slingshot. A .44 mag has more knockdown than a .50AE - more velocity, more energy.

I've got a couple of old vests (both threat level IIIA). Would you mind wearing them and letting me shoot you with a .44 Mag and a .50 AE and tell me the difference?
My point is what the fuck is someone really going to do with that? My friend with the Ramo .50 BMG bought a .500 S&W. I've shot it, and it's no fun to shoot. It hurts.
When I go shooting, I go for pleasure. I'm sure as hell not going to use a .500 S&W for home defense...

Totally irrelevant, I was just saying that the ".44" bullet is a little smaller. And really, more velocity/energy? The factory 325 grain .50 AE load is 1400 fps/1400 fpe. What does a factory .44 Mag load do?I've got a couple of old vests (both threat level IIIA). Would you mind wearing them and letting me shoot you with a .44 Mag and a .50 AE and tell me the difference?

I'd take a .44 over a .45 if weight, size, and concealability weren't a concern; since they are, I'll take my .357 Magnum and 10mm.
Different tastes I guess. I love shooting my dad's Desert Eagle, my .445 SuperMag (300-400 fps faster than a .44 Mag with a 240 grain bulet), my .41 Mag, my 1911 with .45 Super, and my 10mms and .357 Mag with hot loads. Recoil puts a smile on my face. :)

If you are just out having fun those are kickass, but many of those loads aren't always the best for defense. Yeah you have a lot of knock down power, but the tradeoffs of recoil, muzzle flash, and noise aren't worth it IMO. If you are in an enclosed space without ear protection at night it would suck firing a super mag etc. I'll take standard load 230 grain .45acp, easy follow up shots and you still get a big hole with plenty of penetration...

Yeah, no way I'd use a big magnum cartridge (.445, .50 AE, S&W 500, or even hot .44) for defense. They're just for fun (hunting if I hunted).

I like the desert eagle because of it's weight - helps with recoil and makes it more manageable - until you put it away - then it gets stupid.

When you shoot the huge calibers, do you shoot 500 rounds or more? Shooting an OMG caliber is fine for under 20 rounds. But when it comes down to serious fun, I'd rather load the Ruger .357 Magnum and go to town. Those huge guns are more of a novelty.
I just don't have the desire to own something that is impractical. I never thought I'd own a .44 Mag until I found this smoking deal.

my .44 mag is the most accurate pistol I own, for target shooting, I wouldn't have anything else. I think it all depends on the shooter. I would rather shoot a .44 mag than a .357 - I find them to be less snappy.

I'm not a fan of scopes on pistols.. except for the neat little red dots on ruger mkII's.
iron sights are just fine for 50ft.

It's just an FYI, you were impressed by the .44 mag data, then he mentioned hunting with one, you said you don't hunt with pistols, so then I mentioned there were in fact carbines that fired a .44 mag as well.

I'm aware of the carbines. There are a lot of guys that have a .44 mag pistol/lever action rifle combo just like I have a .357 mag pistol/lever action rifle pair.
