Going to see it tonight! I'm fuckin' pumped.
I haven't read the book, but I know a fair amount of detail. From what I understand, (like a lot of adaptations from book/comic to film), it's probably a good thing to see the movie first, that way you're not constantly comparing the two while watching the movie.
Edit: There are some spoilers in here

That was one of the best movies I've seen in a long, long time. So visually impactful, so many layers to the story. I don't care if it's a "comic book" movie or not, it's one of the smartest, most morally introspective flicks I've ever seen.
Hell, the opening credits were ground breaking to me, and from there it just got better. I'm only a few chapters into the book, but based on what I know about it so far, I'm totally happy with the changes that were made, especially the ending.

I liked it. Never read the comic, or to you nerds, "graphic novel" (fags), but I thought it was a very well done movie. Very in depth story. There seems to be a WHOLE lot that needed to be fit into a movie, and I think Snyder(sp?) did a pretty good job. Trying to give an in-depth look into every hero's background, plus, explain how they worked together (or against eachother) AND including a plot is a heavy load. I can imagine how people with no attention span would get bored because there really isn't all that much action. However, the action that is there is extremely intense.
8.5 out of 10 from me.

Nope, just didn't do it for me. Old has been ass kickers that spent 2/3's of the movie deciding if they wanted to kick ass again (meanwhile the entire time talking about imminent nuclear destruction). Then they do tap into their "hero" persona while they beat up on some thugs that were going to jump them....shortly after they celebrate their triumph by making love in his jet “Archie”...don’t forget the flame thrower for the orgasm *ghey*...then lets bust our other super badass "hero" out of jail and have an ass kicking scene with the jail life. Meanwhile that "hero" is fucking up a little person and his thugs. Then we get to Dr. Manhattan who doesn’t care about life…so he leaves…but then comes back because creation of life is a miracle…but then see’s the mass destruction of life framed to be his doing…then to say that he accepts but doesn’t condone the destruction of life…only to say he is going to leave for a simpler existence and maybe he will create some life…(yes this all happened in about 15 minutes) All this for world peace……right…
The only character that I liked in the movie was Rorschach because he wasn’t a self conflicted asshat that sold out for everything he was worth.

I will agree that the opening sequence was amazing and had me really pumped for the movie. I loved Rorschack, and the complexity (or lack therof) of The Comedian. I also thought the movie was extremely aesthetically pleasing. Other than that, it was horrible. I guess I should have seen it coming from how "artsy" the intro was. I could tell who the killer was after the scene was shown, and was sure of it once more background info was given. My issues with the movie were:
Man junk: I understand staying true to graphic novels, or doing it for a certain effect, but would it have made the movie worse for him wearing the bronze "underwear" or whatever the whole movie? It takes nothing away artistically to do that. Do you think they could have gotten away with some blue chick walking around with her "meat curtains" hanging around all movie? No way. Forgetting Sarah Marshall wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be, but this movie made it look like a "G" rated movie.
Movie length: You could have cut out a big chunk and never missed a beat. Went to the 10:30 showing which began at 10:45 p.m. and got out at 1:30ish. Not too bad,... if it wasn't already putting everyone to sleep.
No constant "style" or "direction": The movie starts off "dark" and semi-"artsy." Then it switches to storytelling mode, then a small bit of action, back to artsy, back to too much storytelling, then to the corniest sex scene I've seen in a long time (complete with close-ups of the guy's ass as he thrusts into the woman,) back to too much storytelling, then action.... etc., etc., .... I like where the movie could have gone, but it didn't, it was all over the place.
I'll watch Daredevil before I'll watch this one again

Wife and I saw it last night. The opening fight scene was probably the best part of the movie. After that it got boring real quick and the music in this movie was very out of place. I am now halfway through the book, and I have to say, the movie has done an amazing job. Faithful to the source material, while streamlining some of the clunky bits. I'm really looking forward to the DVD release. I'm interested to see the Black Freighter added in, though it is being released separately in a couple weeks...

"They're in the book. And on this disc. From the director of Watchmen and 300 come two tales from the celebrated graphic novel that do not appear in the extraordinary Watchmen Theatrical Feature. Tales of the Black Freighter (featuring the voice of 300's Gerard Butler) brings to strikingly animated life the novels richly layered story-within-a-story, a daring pirate saga whose turbulent events may mirror those in the Watchmen's world. Stars from the Watchmen movie team in the amazing live-action/CGI Under the Hood, based on Nite Owl's powerful first-hand account of how the hooded adventurers came into existence. Two fan-essential stories. One place to watch the excitement. Watching the Watchmen begins here."

The movie was BRILLIANT!
I can see how some people (dim witted folks who are used to typical Hollywood cookie cutter movie where everything is explained and there is always a happy ending) won't like it, especially because of the length and the "slow" dialogue intense scenes. But like Blake said, I appreciate a movie that makes one think, has layered and deep characters and doesn't take its audience for granted.
I did read the book long before the movie came out, and I just recently read it again to freshen up, and I'm extremely happy with the screen adaptation... I don't mind some of the changes that were made. The only thing that I would have done differently would be Adrian/Ozymandias, in the book he's portrayed as a humanitarian and charismatic guy, but in the movie they made it too obvious that he was going to be the "villain".

[QUOTE=BLAKE;5620033]Whoah man, that is definitely an R rated movie. Not for the kids for sure.
QUOTE]
We generally dont shelter the kids from movies, as my veiw is that good parenting will over come the effects of movies and video games. We are a close knit family and they do know the difference between movies and reality. This movie was alot over what we would let them watch at home. Im hoping the dvd will have even more of the stuff we shelter them from. :wiggle:

From $55 million to $18 million in one week (-67%) I guess you dweebs are the only people who like it.

Fuuuuuuck, that's not good. :o
Ah well, I'll be going to see it again, so I've certainly done my part.
Edit: and as a self-proclaimed 80's nerd, you should be on board with this one too. This book is as 80's as Thriller. :D

I never go watch a movie twice - and as much as I like this movie I can't invest another 3 hours.

Ya know, I'm shocked I didn't like it myself. I love these kinda flicks. But I did have a couple beers before the show, and it was late in the evening. I may give it another shot at home on DVD.

Saw it tonight. Can't really figure out why I was bored to tears throughout the entire thing. Had good music, 1 or 2 convincing badasses, narcasistic humor and a general distaste for humanity throughout, an alternate timeline America set in my youth that I clearly remember, the threat of total global thermonuclear war; hell, pretty much just about everything I could be interested in, and I thought this movie completely sucked. It will probably be bothering me for the rest of the week.

I thought it was a damn fine movie, and I will own this one on dvd. It was a bit much for my kids to see, I didnt see anything in this reveiw that said graphic nudity, so I spent some time telling the kids to cover their eyes (like that would actually work in a dark theatre) instead of watching the movie. Over all I really liked it.
LMAO! Im glad to hear Im not the only one that let their kids watch it and figured out real quick it wasnt as kid friendly as I thought. I too let me kids watch movies with violence and all that and believe good parenting will overcome that so I figured what the hell. Then next thing you know you got blue cock everywhere, people fucking, etc etc. Needless to say the kids went to bed not even a 1/4 of the way through.
The movie was great but horrible, so many subtle things going on but god damn it, I dont wanna stare at some dudes schlong the whole fucking movie. Yeah, yeah I got the inuism behind it all about all his humanity being lost as time went on represented by first wearing full clothes then loin cloth then nothing, bu DAMN!
I guess I will say it was a great movie based on a boring story line. The director did a great job on his part though.
