my habit is always racking the slide and checking the little tab on the side that lets you know if there is a round in the chamber.

I've had one accidental discharge while hunting and it scared the shit out of me...I was with another person, but I was keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe direction so no harm. It only takes a second:smashfreakB:

A guy at work did the same thing about a year ago. Shot his ring finger right beside the knuckle. We affectionately called him "Ricky Bobby" for a while after that.

I was in the room when a good friend ND'd his XD-45 taking it apart.
I'm not sure I've ever been more pissed in my life than I was at that moment.
Same story... he really was a safe guy around guns. I never thought twice about going to the range or hunting with him or anything else. One SERIOUS fucking mental lapse though and we're standing there checking ourselves for holes.

rotfl.
My gun barrel is never at any time pointed at any part of me or anyone else regardless of the situation, hopefully that will save me if I go full retard one day.
Anyone have the link to the gunsmith that shot himself in the leg with a .45 HP? That was crazy.

lol @ reactionary pull.
That's a common issue when people accidentally fired a full auto weapon, they tense up and squeeze more - if you've ever wondered how people shoot themselves when an auto gets away from them, this is how - limpwristing, surprise, reactionary pull.

the iraqi police have no weapons discipline they just throw the AK's around loaded like it no big deal the same with the RPK,PKM,PKC ect.. he was just walking around with he finger on the trigger and then WHAM!!! 8 rounds in my direction one round hit about 6 inches in front of my foot and he just looked at me with a dumb look as if he were saying "did i do that?!? nooooo not me "so i grabed my 9 mil out of the holster and was about to shoot him but my plt sgt stoped me stupid hadjis:madfawk:

Bout 7-8 years ago I shot a hole in a motel wall. I had been jacking with my Taurus 9mm, putting in the magazine, the ejecting it, putting it back in, racking a round, thumbing the hammer down, ejecting the clip again, clearing the breach and catching the round, ect. ect. ect. Then I guess I lost my fucking mind and decided that it would be a good idea to just fucking pull the trigger. BANGBANG!!!!
The scariest part, my roomate was sittin on the other bed against the headboard, and the first round hit 18" above his head in the wall. The second round, the completely involuntary round from being scared as shit from the first round discharging, went in the wall just as it meets the ceiling. Scared the shit outta me, and he just had a completely empty stare. I looked outside the room, and a guy had just stuck his head outta his room. "What the hell was that!!" he said, to which I responded, "Probably just kids with fireworks." That was good enough for him I guess, because he just shut his door. Luckily the room next door, that I undoubtably put a round into, was the linen storage room. I pasted the bullet holes up with toilet paper and colgate toothpaste, and nothing was ever said, and the police were never notified. :o:o:o

My Taurus is marked with white paint like a site, so I assume they want you to see it when a round is in the chamber.
